Ashhurst is the gateway to the Hawkes Bay and to the East coat of the north island and Ashhurst is one of the largest suburbs of Palmerston North city. As from November 2020 the population is 3,550. 115.189.134.53 (talk) 01:18, 21 January 2021 (UTC)

Origin of name
[edit]Is it correct that, "Ashhurst was named for Lord Henry Ashhurst"? In 1874 he was listed in an Economist advert (p28) as H. G. Ashhurst, Esq., Colonial Merchant, London. The only information I can find about him is in a blog, which says Henry George Ashhurst (1821-82) was the 4th son of William Henry Ashhurst (1778-1846) and grandson of Sir William Henry Ashhurst (1726-1807). Te Ara could be used as a source saying, "Henry George Ashhurst, the director of the Emigrant and Colonist’s Aid Corporation after whom it was named". Johnragla (talk) 11:24, 4 May 2025 (UTC)
