Dr Esmé Ross-Langley (née George) died in 1992. She left behind a lot of documentation about Arena Three and the Minorities Research Group that she intended should reach the public domain. Many of the facts are unknown or controversial: (1) Esme had experience of running newsletters as an employee, eg the London Property Letter. (2) Arena Three was the second publication of the Minorities Research Group (MRG). The first was a magazine for people who lived in rented rooms (bedsitter land). (3) Esme researched publishing law especially for Arena Three and had decided it was legally safe providing it was sent out as a newsletter for members and that she was solely responsible for it. Then it could not be a conspiracy! As a result, Esme was the only person ultimately responsible for Arena Three. (4) She had not intended Arena Three to be a social magazine, but was overwhelmed by the response from readers. For a long time she answered all the letters herself. (5) When the lesbian scene was self supporting, she moved to work abroad but first she closed Arena Three and destroyed the mailing list to protect subscribers.
