Background

[edit]

Hello all

I have changed the wording to avoid the dubious time lines of the previous version which didn't take into account the differences in time zones. Rather than putting the events in the order in which they occurred (which isn't at all apparent from the cited sources) I have listed the countries that declared war on Japan alphabetically rather than by purported chronology. If someone wants to reorder them chronologically they will have to use some standard timing such as GMT. They will also need to sort out differences in declarations of war, ratification of said declarations, and their effective date. But I don't think it's worth the trouble. Lead

Hello all

I have rewritten the lead to make it a summary of the article as it stands. See MOS:LEAD.
