аппара́тчик, plural apparatchiki

While this is true that in Russian the plural for this word is as stated above, in English you write "apparatchiks". At least in New York Times they do. --Anthony Ivanoff 16:46, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

What is the origin of the word?

-chik = diminutive

The "chik" at the end of the word puts it in a diminutive attributal form, somebody playing a small part in a bigger scheme of things.

I commented out this sentence. The suffix -chik in Russian can be indeed a diminutive suffix, but in this case it is just a suffix denoting profession, like -er in English. --Anthony Ivanoff 03:09, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

Possible NPOV issue with one of the sources used in the article

Hi, I noticed that one of the sources cited here is the Estonian website "communistcrimes.org". Are we absolutely sure it's impartial enough for use here? Odysseus Giacosa (talk) 22:15, 26 June 2026 (UTC)

The author Olev Liivik is a known expert in Soviet Communism. The website is managed by the Estonian Institute of Historical Memory. I think, they have something to say about communist crimes. The text referenced is factually correct and neutral. --Altenmann >talk 23:32, 26 June 2026 (UTC)

I think it's fine to cite that source as long as the source's author is credible and the material being stated isn't controversial or biased. Yue🌙 (talk) 01:46, 28 June 2026 (UTC)
