Taxonomy: For all marine species, Project Gastropods uses the taxonomy in the online database WoRMS. When starting a new article, do not use sources of taxonomic information that predate the 2017 revision for all gastropod groups ("Revised Classification, Nomenclator and Typification of Gastropod and Monoplacophoran Families" by Philippe Bouchet & Jean-Pierre Rocroi, Bernhard Hausdorf, Andrzej Kaim, Yasunori Kano, Alexander Nützel, Pavel Parkhaev, Michael Schrödl and Ellen E. Strong in Malacologia, 2017, 61(1–2): 1–526.) (can be dowloaded at Researchgate.net), substituting the previous classification of 2005 Taxonomy of the Gastropoda (Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005). Hello! I am new to the world of Wikipedia. I was just curious if there were any known reasons as to why this genus of freshwater snail is only found in very particular places in Florida? Does it have something to do with specific favorable environmental conditions or perhaps low opportunities for genetic exchange? I don't recall seeing any sources that address those issues for Aphaostracon, but the article for Floridobia, another genus of very small snails with most species endemic to a single spring in Florida, does discuss the very limited environmental niche in which they are found. As most of the species are limited to small, widely scattered locations, genetic isolation probably does play a role in the observed speciation. Donald Albury 16:57, 18 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
