Removed undocumented statement that his original name was Jeremiah Schwarz, added a bit more. I once met him and posed for a picture with him (as did thousands of others) when he was touring small-town theaters. Ortolan88 17:03 Dec 22, 2002 (UTC)

Frank Zappa wrote a song about Andy Devine, appropriately titled "Andy". It can be found on the album "One Size Fits All".

Actually born Andrew Vabre Devine in Flagstaff, Arizona, he was raised in nearby Kingman, Arizona, the son of Irish-American hotel operator Thomas Devine and his wife Amy. Devine was an able athlete as a student and actually played semi-pro football under a phony name (Jeremiah Schwartz, often erroneously presumed to be his real name; Devine used the false name in order to remain eligible for college football.)

Andy Devine is very celebrated in Kingman were he grew up. And the Beale Hotel still stands there.

I'm very surprised that there's no mention of the tv show Andy's Gang here. What's worse, Andy's Gang only redirects to this biography page, with only a link to Froggy the Gremlin (hmmm....) Methinks a twanger needs to be plucked. Anybody interested in getting some information about this? Mine is minimal. --Happylobster 17:40, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

University

I've removed the unsupported claim he went to Ball State University. Several places state he attended Santa Clara University, one says Arizona State College (although that seems unlikely, as what is now Arizona State University wasn't called that until 1945, according to the ASU article). Bohemian Grove

Andy DeVine had an attack while at the Bohemian Grove Encampment. Andy was rushed to the Hospital in Santa Rosa where he was in the ICU for about a month. 24.116.115.90 (talk) 22:24, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
