Confusing sentence

The sentence in the second paragraph that reads, "According to the media report, the Ukrainian athlete from Ostroh District was the driver of Citroën." is nearly unintelligible. He was "the driver" of a car manufacturer? Did he work for them? Did he drive one of the cars they had made? Very unclear. Perhaps this sentence should be removed.
