The "Existential risk from artificial intelligence" template at the bottom of the article

Use of his Chinese name

As confirmed by this New York Times article and by this BBC article: "楊安澤" is Andrew Yang's Chinese name. Also his Chinese and English names are on an ad for a lecture in English he gave in Taiwan (Institute of Strategy and International Affairs, National Chung Cheng University).

As he was US-born and his notability is not outright tied to his ethnicity, his Chinese name should not be in the lead. However it can be put in an infobox to the side.

In regards to this edit, I note that 楊安澤 would be an original Chinese name; a phonetic transliteration of "Andrew Yang" in Chinese would be "安德鲁·楊"

On whether his heritage is important to his biography, the New York Times ran an article talking about how he handled his ethnic heritage when he ran for president. Matt Stevens of The New York Times (Stevens had been adopted from South Korea) wrote that "He said repeatedly that he was proud of his background and was well aware that he was being seen as a representative of the community." I found a 2021 article from Politico and, the author, Tina Nguyen, stated that prior to 2020 he had "sidestepped, as far as I could tell, his entire life" the issue of his identity, but that he had opened up to her during the conversation they had. WhisperToMe (talk) 22:50, 25 July 2026 (UTC)

In this 2025 research article (Global Discourse, a journal of Bristol University Press) the authors (Richard Johnson and Neil Visalvanich) concluded "Rather than downplay his racial identity, Yang highlighted it, both explicitly and implicitly, in his rhetoric." Also adding Simplified since in this Chinatown publicity by the "Asian Americans Supporting Andrew Yang Association" (华人支特杨安泽??联盟??) - I can't read out the last two Chinese characters but they seem to be 联盟?
