The scoring error was known long before 1974 (probably already in 1924)

I read Sven Lindhagen's book Från Pava-Lasse till Mora-Nisse (1953). There, on page 118, I find this paragraph:

Swedish:

När den svenske skidsekreteraren och backspecialisten Johan af Klercker några månader senare fick protokollen och kontrollräknade dem, fann han att domarna räknat fel. Haugen var faktiskt dömd som trea. Felet påtalades men rättades aldrig.

English translation:

When the secretary of the Swedish Ski Association, and ski jumping specialist, Johan af Klercker received the score sheets a few months later and checked them, he found that the judges had miscalculated. Haugen was actually placed third. The error was pointed out but never corrected.

So, while it's very much possible that Jacob Vaage independently discovered this error, it seems to have been known already in the spring or summer of 1924. And even if Lindhagen misremembers the situation, it was certainly known before 1953 when his book was published. Fomalhaut76 (talk) 18:42, 23 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
