Meaning of letters

[edit]

Rublamb & Jax MN I'm trying to see if we can get the meaning of the APsiO letters to the same standard as DPsiO...

Given the following from the Alpha Psi Omega initiation (both at https://aunited.andersonuniversity.edu/organization/alpha-psi-omega/documents/view/506721 and https://rowan.campuslabs.com/engage/organization/alphapsiomega/documents/view/633773 ),

BUSINESS MANAGER: ALPHA PSI OMEGA teaches nothing new in saying that you will be rewarded according to the quality of your performances -- but this is the Alpha and Omega of this society, the beginning and the end! Although your work so far has admitted you to this chapter, it is no sign that your work is done. This recognition demonstrates that you are capable of even better work. To be an artist in any line requires infinite capacity for hard work and attention to detail. ALPHA PSI OMEGA would have you reach the highest accomplishments; envision all that you are capable of being. Now that you, by your hard work, have been admitted to this society, you must conserve your life, your health, and your character. Therefore, to the beginning and end, let there be added the cardinal principles for which the letter “Psi” of our name, ALPHA PSI OMEGA, stands, and which means “Mind and Spirit.” Our motto, “Seek a Life Useful,” means not only that we strive to be artists, but that we endeavor to seek the highest goal of any artist, service.

Should any of that be added in terms of meaning of letters?

Note, the Greek corresponding to live a life useful being αιτειτε ψύχην ωφελιμον comes from https://alphapsiomegawcu.wixsite.com/wcupa/about Naraht (talk) 19:59, 19 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

I think the Symbols section of our article about DPsiO's is brief, and clear. I'm having a difficult time parsing something of similar brevity from the paragraph above. The prose isn't written in an encyclopedic voice, nor do the letters specifically translate in a way that captures "Mind and Spirit. Google Translate offers "Ask for a useful soul" from a direct reading of those lower case letters, the first letters of which are Alpha Psi and Omega, when in more recognizable capitals. Maybe just state the motto, and the impression that ought to be a member's purpose, from beginning (Α) to end (Ω). I do not know how to succinctly express their usage of Psi. "Soul" (ψύχην), standing between the beginning and end? Dunno. Jax MN (talk) 04:39, 20 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Colors

[edit]

Rublamb, I recall inserting into the infobox the two colors you have recently replaced, noting how interesting it was that the society adopted "Bastard Amber" as one of the two. This color, and Moonlight blue came directly from a reference, and were not backwards-engineered from a search of the hex code. Did you replace them because more recently, more standard colors were chosen? For historical reasons we ought to keep mention of these, if they were the original colors.

(Casual readers: "Bastard" here refers to the slight incorporation of a small percentage of a complimentary color, adjusting the hue of a standard amber sheet of glassine or a color filter called a gel, used in earlier types of stage lighting. The effect of that "bastardization" was more desirable than straight, pure yellow.)

The infobox colors (name and HEX code) are from the organization's current branding guide and honor cords. The historical colors are still included in the symbol's section. Rublamb (talk) 13:38, 20 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Got it. Thank you! Jax MN (talk) 16:27, 20 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
