Supreme Allied Commander Atlantic#Structure in 1989

Dear Drmies can you explain the difference between the SACLANT 1989 structure I've linked here, or maybe some of the lists at Structure of NATO, and the list of COEs you've tried to delete? Organizations are notable, and so are their subcomponents - we exhaustively detail, for example, the U.S. Department of Defense (List of components of the U.S. Department of Defense) or the United Nations. • I cannot explain why we list every single damn entity for the US DoD, no. Organizations are not automatically notable, and if organizations are notable, that does not mean that their individual components are notable. For the place I work at, which is notable and has an article, I could start listing HR, Admissions, Outreach, the nursing clinic, the physical plant, the English department, the tennis courts... Comparing with another article is covered, for deletion discussions, in WP:OTHERSTUFF. If you want to compare, compare to GAs and FAs. Pomona College, for instance, does not include a list of all organizational entities. Drmies (talk) 13:42, 1 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Well, the precedent is that individual NATO organisations have articles - we have stacks of them, from Central Army Group to Multinational Division Central. These COEs are individually notable - because of their outreach efforts they create significant amounts of press. Four of them have individual articles:
    • Centre of Excellence for Operations in Confined and Shallow Waters
    • Combined Joint Operations from the Sea Center of Excellence
    • Military Engineering Centre of Excellence
    • Multinational Centre of Excellence for Mountain Warfare
  • Given what the trend re NATO is, I would expect more articles on individual COEs to be created in time.

• • So a listing of them is also notable. If you wish to start removing swaths of NATO organisations I think you need to start an RfC, not by randomly removing specific lists. Buckshot06 (talk) 20:16, 1 June 2026 (UTC)
