Shepherds Landing

[edit]

It's not currently mentioned in the article, but where was Shepherds Landing, and where (& to what) did the car floats connect on the Alexandria side? On the DC side, there's a wharf at Blue Plains and a pier/dock at present-day JBAB, both of which would've been somewhere along the Shepherd Industrial Track. I wonder if one (or, neither?) of these was the site of Shepherds Landing. On the Alexandria side, there's a spur running along the waterfront, formerly serving a power plant and terminating at the old Robinson Terminal wharf. If I had to guess, this spur also served the car floats (and perhaps from that same wharf). On the other hand, that spur belongs to Norfolk Southern and I don't know if that route (whatever it was then) was any more hospitable to B&O than the Long Bridge (that they couldn't use and which led to the Alexandria Extension in the first place). Can anyone fill in the details or point us to a good source? - Gyrofrog (talk) 22:45, 1 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
