[edit]

The claim that Alexander Twilight is the first "black person" to have graduated in America is unprovable. We don't have evidence that there were not previous people of that ethnic description who graduated. Similarly, it's thrown into doubt by the statement that his mother was 'white'. To what extent is he described as 'black'. I have changed the sentence to say that he is the first "black person" known to have graduated an American college, but think we if we really want to make a point about race we should be accurate about it, and ought to find another word that best describes that group of people which includes both full-blooded negroes and half-castes and put that in the article. Should mention John Chavis? Washington & Lee has celebrated him as the first black college graduate.69.116.76.153 (talk) 17:56, 12 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Party membership?

[edit]

Is it known what, if any, political party he was a member of during his political career? 190.100.175.35 (talk) 21:15, 13 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
