Tatar ethnicity
[edit]As there's been a revert, I'll discuss. He does not, as the article stands at the time of writing, belong in a "Tatar people" category. A source exists for him having a Tatar relative, but that is not the same as him being Tatar. My spouse's father is Korean, but she is not Korean. I have an English ancestor, but I am not English. We need a source that explicitly identifies the subject as "Tatar". Not "of Tatar decent" or "has a Tatar [relative]", but "[subject] is Tatar". Anything else is WP:OR and forbidden. Please check the cited sources
[edit]What's going on here? Is there a language barrier problem or something? Everything written is mentioned in the Russian language sources. Please check the cited sources. ChristopherBashirov (talk) 19:36, 23 September 2026 (UTC)
- Please provide translated quotes which verify the information you sought to include. The first source I actually have to remove, as it appears to have no editorial oversight. The remaining tow don't appear to mention many of the details claimed. EducatedRedneck (talk) 20:11, 23 September 2026 (UTC)
- The link you removed was indeed a blog, but that particular content was originally authored by И.В. Рыльщиков, В.И. Меркулов. It was also published by Anatole A. Klyosov in a publication, that can be accessed here: [1]
- The relevant part: Баширов Александр Николаевич. И.В. Рыльщиков, В.И. Меркулов (pg 1222-1227)
- To be specific, page 1224, for the following quote:
"Александр Николаевич носит фамилию своей мамы, Марии Катыровны Башировой. Его отец, Николай Захарович Косыгин, никогда не был частью семьи, так бывает. Мать нашего героя из сибирских татар. Её родина – деревня Карагай Вагайского районаТюменской области."
- English translation:
"Alexander Nikolayevich bears the surname of his mother, Maria Katyrovna Bashirova. His father, Nikolai Zakharovich Kosygin, was never part of the family—such things happen. Our subject’s mother was a Siberian Tatar; she hailed from the village of Karagay in the Vagaysky District of the Tyumen Region." ChristopherBashirov (talk) 21:38, 23 September 2026 (UTC)
- The link you provided appears to be a personal website, and so is not acceptable per WP:SPS. What is your relation to Aleksander Bashirov? EducatedRedneck (talk) 00:03, 24 September 2026 (UTC)
- According to Wikipedia:Identifying_and_using_self-published_works, self-published works are those in which the author and publisher are the same. That's not the case here. Authors are I.V. Rylshchikov, V.I. Merkulov, and publisher is A.A. Klyosov. ChristopherBashirov (talk) 00:30, 24 September 2026 (UTC)
- Provide a quote for that please. Because this quote is from that guideline:
Self-published material, such as... personal websites
. Citing that website for that work isn't allowed; if you can get the info for the paper itself, and where it was actually published, and so on, that might be one thing. (I'd have to see the particulars.) But content published on a personal website is, according to Wikipedia, self-published. - I must insist. What is your relation to Aleksander Bashirov? Your user name gives the impression your are family, in which case you should not edit the article directly. Per WP:BLP, unsourced or poorly sourced material must be removed. EducatedRedneck (talk) 00:41, 24 September 2026 (UTC)
- Once again, the source is not a self-published work. Both the authors, as well as the publisher, are actually highly educated academics. Well established in their fields. ChristopherBashirov (talk) 18:01, 30 September 2026 (UTC)
- Maybe they are. In which case, find it where the authors or their publisher put it. What you cited is a link to a file on a personal website, which could've been modified or fabricated. And again, WP:ONUS:
The responsibility for achieving consensus for inclusion is on editors seeking to include disputed content.
The content is disputed, because I dispute it. Sort it out here, on the talk page, before putting it back in the article. - What is your relationship to Aleksandr Bashirov? The more you refuse to answer, the more suspicious this seems. EducatedRedneck (talk) 18:11, 30 September 2026 (UTC)
- It's a webpage by an academic, publishing work of other acedemics. Meanwhile you are making it sound like it's some fanpage with no editorial oversight. Clearly not the case. ChristopherBashirov (talk) 18:54, 30 September 2026 (UTC)
- I assume you are a relative of Aleksandr Bashirov. You should NOT be editing the page directly, and you also should NOT be readding contentious material regardless of whether or not it's sourced.
- I doesn't matter whose webpage it is. It's a personal webpage, under one person's control. We could use it as a source for what the webpage author says, or maybe as a source for whatever the author is an expert on, but not for what other people say.
