"illegitimate" children

[edit]

The article currently has a header Relationships and illegitimate children. Referring to children as illegitimate is biased -- they are legitimately children -- and quite dated, as children born outside of wedlock are quite standard these days. (Just as an example: the first child on the list was born in the US, where 40% of children are born outside of wedlock.) There is absolutely no reason to be demeaning the children in this manner, for events that they had no control over. May I suggest Non-marital relationships and resulting children as a header instead? Or possibly simply Paternity claims? -- Nat Gertler (talk) 23:57, 27 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

I agree. "There are no illegitimate children – only illegitimate parents". (Leon Rene Yankwich) -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 00:02, 28 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Without objection, I changed it to Paternity claims. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 23:29, 28 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Billionaire

[edit]

I just had to eliminate one of the sources used to establish his US$1 billion + evaluation, as it was a WP:FORBESCON article and thus not usable on a WP:BLP. I do not have Forbes access, so I cannot tell which of the information in the statement is referenced there. However, this evaluation is a problem, as it is greater than a decade old and thus cannot be trusted for the current situation. (I did put a date on it.) This also brings into question his inclusion in Category:Monegasque billionaires, as even if the more-than-a-billion evaluation stands, it is possible for him not to be a Monegasque billionaires because Monaco is based not on the dollar but the more-valuable euro, and it is possible he is worth less than a billion euros. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 00:42, 13 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Okay, I've not managed to catch the details on the new page before the paywall block popped up, and it evaluated him at a flat $1 billion. One might guess he gained money in the ensuing years, and thus qualify as a euro-billionaire, but guesses ain't factses. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 01:40, 13 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Fiedler suit dates

[edit]

I was bothered by the description of the Fiedler lawsuit as simply being "earlier". I found a later piece of coverage that cited the date of the alleged tryst to October 1986, and the matter was definitely getting coverage in 1991 (sometimes luridly so, as one might imagine), but given the sometimes slow-grinding wheels of justice, that means the suit could've been filed anytime between 1987 and 1991. If anyone can come up with a more precise date, it would be an improvement. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 16:41, 17 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Never mind, I found it. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 17:20, 17 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Children in infobox

[edit]

@MaximZero: You complain about people removiung the name of an out-of-wedlock child from the infobox. Out-of-wedlock is not the issue, notability is. As a rule, we only name notable relative in infoboxes -- if you look at Will Smith for example, you'll see that it mentions that he has three kids, but only names the ones with their own substantial entertainment careers. Folks in line for the throne are generally considered notable (as well as noble), measured by their ability to support their own Wikipedia pages, but the other offspring does not seem to have that notability at this point. If this changes in the future, then of course we could re-add. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 02:54, 3 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

@NatGertler: Can you explain why Jazmin Grace Grimaldi is considered notable enough to be included in the infobox, but Alexandre Grimaldi-Coste is not? There does seem to be a pattern where Alexandre, who is of partial African ancestry, keeps being deleted, while others are not. What was your rationale for keeping the Prince's white, female out-of-wedlock child while deleting his Black, male out-of-wedlock child? By the way, without doing a DNA test on the legitimate issue of the Prince and Charlene, Princess of Monaco—who is of a South African Afrikaner background—there is no way of knowing if her offspring may also be of Sub-Saharan African ancestry.-- MaximZero (talk)
Jazmin Grace Grimaldi has her own Wikipedia page which is supported at least in part by coverage for her performing. Might that be challengable? Perhaps, I've not taken a good look at it. Does Alexander have any such external notability? -- Nat Gertler (talk) 05:47, 3 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
So, in your opinion, Jazmin Grace Grimaldi is notable because she has a Wikipedia page that focuses on her high school experiences, appearances in several short films, an uncredited role in a Netflix episode, and a "single" she made with the son of John Mellencamp. To me, that is a vanity stub that confers little, if any, notability. One could argue that either neither Jazmin nor Alexandre should be listed as Issue, or that both should be listed and their legitimacy indicated. MaximZero (talk) 13:12, 3 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
"Has a Wikipedia page" is an internal way of checking notability, because the page itself could be put up for deletion via the WP:AFD process where (most commonly) the issue for discussion is notability. If you wish to challenge her notability, putting that article up for deletion would be a good manner of doing so, as it does seem marginal, and if that page went away I would very much support her being removed from the infobox. While I cannot speak to any other editors work, race took zero consideration into it; yesterday I was also involved in removing Wallace Shawn's mother from his infobox, for similar notability reasons. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 14:34, 3 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
