Updating/replacing an article

[edit]

The new article in English on Alain Borer would make it concordant with the existing wikipedia page in French, of which it is a translation. Jan Siesling (talk) 19:51, 18 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi, the problem with this is that the French and English Wikipedias have different standards. Sentences like this, It is poetry, which infuses all of Alain Borer’s writings, when unreferenced, read like peacock phrases in the English Wikipedia. You also have not inserted references properly with automatically-numbered citations; see referencing for beginners for help with this. Tacyarg (talk) 05:10, 30 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, Tacyarc, for your reaction. I am, as you see, less than a beginner. I humbly ask you for forgiveness. An update of the Alain Borer page was however necessary, the old page having become obsolete and in several places erroneous. Also badly referenced, worse than in my case, even. So I tried to help out. My example was/is the page in French, written by an expert in Borer, I could only translate, not check word for word. Curiously, the « peacock phrase » you detected was one of the few phrases I kept from the old English page, I thought there was some truth in it. Dropping it would not hurt anyone. Much more important, and depressing, I have not yet been able to figure out the way to bring in the correct notes and references in the text and in the list of notes. I will do my best to find out, the existing « help » not being helpful for now yet. Again, thank you for your remarks, and I only ask you for your patience. Sincerely, Jan Siesling Jan Siesling (talk) 03:13, 2 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
