reverted

[edit]

I reverted these two edits, because they are unreferenced.

Zarqawi's group is almost certainly a Sunni group. The Druze are not Sunnis. Muslims don't even consider them fellow Muslims.

Do we know that the reporters at the German version of MSN recognized the distinction between Zarqawi's group and the Druze? No. Can we know which group the German reporters meant? No, we can't know this.

Placing either Sunni, or Druze, prior to where we paraphrase the MSN article is not OK. Geo Swan (talk) 00:50, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • Let me explain before you revert again.
First of all, that the Druze are not Sunnis is irrelevant to Khaled-al Masry, when he says he was a member of "al-Tawhid". The Lebanese al-Tawhid al-Islam was a Sunni militia during the Lebanese civil war in the 1980s which was unrelated to the Iraqi one. As this article also states, many groups use the name.
It is unlikely that he would refer to himself as a member of the tawhid if he was to explain to a foreigner that he was a Druze, they use the term to refer to themselves, like Jews might refer to themselves as the chosen people, but it is unlikely that they would use it when presenting themselves to others, especially foreigners, who are not familiar with Arabic, and who would certainly have heard the word Druze before.
Anyhow, that is speculation, fact is, all articles specifically refer to the Lebanese militia, and do not mention Druze. Furthermore, that MSN article is not there anymore, so we should use new references, like the ones I just posted. They seem to have been mentioned in the article about al-Masry by someone who just discovered Druze refer to themselves as people of monotheism, and speculated further on that. Making it original research. Funkynusayri (talk) 00:51, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Please follow the indent convention, OK?
I searched for a reference to where el-masri says he was a member of "Tawhid al-Islam". Specifically "el-masri" "Tawhid al-Islam". I can't find one.
I searched for Tawhid al-Islam. The only link my web-search produced was to a blog that discussed "Harakat al-Tawhid al-Islami". Do you have a verifiable, authoritative reference to the existence of "Tawhid al-Islam"? If so, do you have a verifiable, authoritative reference to "Tawhid al-Islam" being a Sunni group?
Your link to the LATimes article is interesting. Much of the portion about el-Masri and Al-Tawhid seems to be merely a rewrite of this wikipedia article. It adds that he listed membership in El-Tawhid when he applied for refugee status. Note: it doesn't say Tawhid al-Islami.
I am not familiar with your Politics Central site. What is it? Is it some kind of blot site? It is a political action group?
The author of the article is named "John Rosenthal". A web search on him shows a wedding photographer and a blogger -- not reputable journalists, or academics. Geo Swan (talk) 02:37, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • My mistake, search for Tawhid al-Islami + Tripoli or Lebanon instead, or look at Islamic Unification Movement, it's the same thing. Don't mind the varying transliteration, there are no standards for Arabic written in Latin letters. I've seen the word in question transliterated as "tawhid", "tawheed", "tawhed", "tauhid", "tauheed", and so on.

I don't know if you saw this link: . These links might not work as references in themselves, but they refer to articles that could. I'm not taking side in the el-Masry case, I just had to put some things straight, being of Lebanese descent and knowing about these parties.

Anyway, this article should be merged into Tawhid. Funkynusayri (talk) 02:52, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Redirect

[edit]

I'll redirect this article to Tawhid or make it a disambiguation page, if anyone wants to incorporate some info from this article into that one, you can still do it. Funkynusayri (talk) 20:51, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
