Proposed merge
[edit]I removed {{Mergeto|Ajacán Mission|date=September 2009}} because it has been there for two years and I would instead merge Ajacán Mission here since this article is more general. RJFJR (talk) 16:06, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
Avacal?
[edit]§ Ajacan#Province of Axacan says (¶3)
- Greater Axacan and adjoining Allegheny Mountains' western slopes, Mocosa, to Ajacal (Avacal) was thought to have rivers connecting to the south and west seas at that time.
What, if anything, is "Avacal"? It's not mentioned anywhere else in the article. The only other occurrence in Wikipedia refers to a Kingdom of the Society for Creative Anachronism. And a web search has turned up only references to that Kingdom, along with a few corporate names, bizarre OCR errors (e.g., "uvâca |"[1]), and unidentifiable miscellanea.

Proposed Edits
[edit]Hello all users/ editors of the Ajacán Wikipedia page. I would like to propose some edits which with your approval will hopefully make the page more accessible to both editors and readers across the web. I would like to first of all change the writing style of the piece, as a user this is the first thing I see when clicking on the article. Secondly, I would also like to add some more references in from a richer and more up-to-date body of literature on the topic, I feel this would greatly help readers to understand what is out there now on this topic. Adding onto this last point I would like to add a section on “Don Luis”, again reflecting the broader scope of the topic and add nuance to the article. Not only would my planned edits help to make the page more accessible, but my aim is to signpost via more references, general web-users or those interested to further reading material. Thank you for your considerations! -- C1508012 (talk) 14:06, 3 December 2025 (UTC)
Renaming of Page - Ajacan to Ajacán
[edit]I am thinking about submitting a request to "move" the name of the page from Ajacan to Ajacán. Much of the text written in the article refers to the accented 'Ajacán' as does the aligning pages of 'Ajacán mission', therefore changing the name of the page would add greater cohesion to the article and therefore align more with its adjoining counterparts. Let me know your thoughts! -- C1508012 (talk) 13:53, 4 December 2025 (UTC)
Change of 'Dominican Friars' Section to Don Luis/ Potential Addition of Failed 1566 Expedition to Ajacán
[edit]Proposed change of 'Dominican Friars' sub-title to 'Don Luis', adding greater clarity to the article with more up to date references. Also potential to add 'Failed 1566 Expedition to Ajacán' adjoining onto it. -- C1508012 (talk) 17:06, 4 December 2025 (UTC)
Addition of 'Ajacán Mission/Settlement in 1570-72'
[edit]Proposed addition of extra information on the Ajácan mission and violence at the mission which led to its failure. This would add depth and breadth of information to the article as well as connect it to the section I had previously edited on Paquiquineo/ Don Luis. -- C1508012 (talk) 14:17, 8 December 2025 (UTC)
Proposed Addition of 'After Ajacán: Legacies and Activity in the Region
[edit]Proposed addition of section under bigger sub-heading 'Ajacán Mission'. Would add greater cohesion to the article and scope of knowledge it disseminates. Adds greater complexity also to the topic, showcasing the historical literature that is out there and that tackles issues such as legacies and memory of colonial violence/ violence in colonial settings. -- C1508012 (talk) 14:19, 8 December 2025 (UTC)
Move Ajacán Mission section down
[edit]Proposed move of 'Ajacán Mission' section down below 'Failed Mission 1566' so the article is more chronological in the events it narrates.C1508012 (talk) 16:49, 17 December 2025 (UTC)
