Coke Studio table

[edit]

Hi! Some anonymous user has several times merged the Coke Studio table into soundtrack table, giving the reason that CS is just a TV series and irrelevant to promote here on BLP with separate table. Maybe, that anonymous didn't note that it worths to mention every suitable parameter for a song of a singer, and that is what CS does. It is more than a TV series for a singer. And this BLP is of a singer. So, discography tables with all suitable information worth.

That is not what only I am saying. See this edit by other user, after which the page was protected due to disruptive edits. Still, after protection ended, the anonymous re-edited on their "own thinking". See this edit by me also. Like, we cannot update the discographies as in WP:DISCOGS because of lack of that kind of references, but we can update as per those references that we have. Thanks! M. Women in Green 20-minute assessment

[edit]

Thanks for participating in Women in Green! Taking a general look at this article, I notice a few places where a copyedit for more idiomatic phrasing would be beneficial (e.g., she is no more able to move her right hand middle finger, She has been a subject for her resemblance with Ariana Grande, whom she is inspired with); it's persistent enough that it might be good to see if the Guild of Copy Editors could give it a once-over. Organizationally, the bit about cancer philanthropy probably belongs better in "personal life". I also wonder if the list of covers is really WP:DUE.Finally, it looks like some of the songs in the soundtrack tables are uncited; I'm not fully familiar with the sourcing expectations for discographies but you might want to double-check them. Looking over the reference list in general, I see a lot of YouTube citations (generally unreliable) but they seem to just be cited to the songs, which strikes me as OK; I don't spot any other sourcing red flags. So overall, I wouldn't nominate it for GA just yet, but these things look addressable and it could be nominated soon. Happy editing! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 02:20, 28 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

@LEvalyn: Hi! Thank you for the feedback. I have reworked a little now. Although, the competition has ended (sadly, I could not participate), a new feedback, however, would be appreciated. M. Billoo 11:26, 1 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Wow, you've been busy! It's much improved. There are still ways it could be polished I think, but all of the "possible quickfail" problems have been addressed and you could consider nominating it for GA. I'm glad you gave Women in Green a try regardless of how it turned out! If you'd like an alternative way to potentially get a faster GA review, you might look into GA review pledges. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 06:13, 2 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

    • ALT0a: ... that some people think that a Pakistani singer looks like Ariana Grande?
    • ALT1: ... that Aima Baig (pictured) won a Pakistani award for a song inspired by Latin music?
Added two hooks. File:Aima Baig VOA 2023.png this image can be used, as discussed on the main article's talk. @Launchballer: Please suggest how to add image, thank you. M. Billoo 17:06, 25 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: Yes
  • Interesting: Unknown
  • Other problems: No - I have struck Hook0 and HookAlt0a I am assuming good faith that the non-English sources verify the Ariana Grande similarity claim, but in reading google automatic translation of the sources I didn't find the mention (perhaps the automatic translation is failing me?). That said the HookAlt1 is cited, and I verified that it was in the cite; that said it's not the most interesting hook. Please provide additional hooks for review and ping me when that's done.

@Dclemens1971: Hi, thank you for your time. Though it is really sad that while we are edging towards DYKTIMEOUT, these comments come up. It may be true that the highlighted references are dependent secondary coverage, but it does not necessarily means that all are generally non-reliable. BLPGOSSIP may apply, but what if the artist in subject has received a lot of social media troll that has become SIGCOV? I will be addressing the above highlighted references one-by-one shortly (I have just removed a duplicate ref as well from your text). But what if I say, WP:DUE WP:ABOUTSELF WP:ATTRIB apply? And how would the references be non-reliable when they are not blind copy-paste recycled churnalism? Thank you. M. Billoo 16:21, 20 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
All of these unbylined gossipy items are churnalism - they're just regurgitating social media posts and gossip. If the material is encyclopedic and WP:DUE, it should be sourced to a reliable source and/or a bylined source, or if appropriate to Baig's own social media per WP:ABOUTSELF. And as for your comment about TIMEOUT, I didn't happen to look at this till now. I intended to promote the hook, but then I saw the extensive reliance on what appear to be unreliable and unsuitable sources. Hopefully they can be removed/replaced in the time remaining. Dclemens1971 (talk) 16:24, 20 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Dclemens1971: Please see my reply below, and latest edits on the article. M. Billoo 19:19, 20 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
  • When you linked WP:RSNOI, you (may have) indirectly (intentionally or unintentionally) called the references "paid" that require "extra vigilance" and "caution" for "factual claims or to establish notability".
  • Aima Baig's ex-, engagement, and breakup, all was a trending talk of town. The couple also appeared together in a number of interviews. Anyone can find a handful of references about two spending time together, and so it is not a non-reliable info.
  • Sara Raza Khan controversy has a BBC ref as well, and this may also prove Momina Mustehsan as her friend. Other refs
  • Disease and arthritis; the refs you highlighted already mention her video interview(s), therefore direct quote. Plus her images prove her bent finger.
  • Tattoos? Other refs include
  • MeToo movement? Already two refs are in the article and at the DYK nom. Other refs include
  • Breakup was a big controversy, though information used in the article is with DUE care, considering BLPPRIV and BLPNAME. You can just check the names of UK-based fashion personalities that were involved, and you may find SIGCOV.
  • This ref was only used to support that she had won an award.
  • Any specific issue you can highlight that can be addressed as per WP:IMPERFECT, WP:FIXTHEPROBLEM, and WP:DEL-CONTENT? Thank you. M. Billoo 17:23, 20 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
NEWSORGINDIA implicates reliability as well as the possibility of paid promotion, which is why I linked it. (I don't understand why you linked DEL-CONTENT, since no one has proposed deleting this article.) I have no idea why her rheumatoid arthritis or her number of tattoos is relevant to an encyclopedic treatment of this person, beyond the fact that gossipy tabloid sources wrote about them. The broader point is that articles at DYK are required to be based on reliable sources, and unbylined tabloid coverage in Pakistani news outlets that is regurgitating social media posts and gossip isn't reliable. I have no vested interest in this subject, and since Wikipedia is WP:NOTCOMPULSORY I am not planning to spend any time improving this article. I'm simply not going to promote it to a prep. If another editor wants to restore the tick despite the documented problems, they may do so at their own discretion. Dclemens1971 (talk) 19:29, 20 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Dclemens1971: Thanks for digging deeper into these sources. Not being familiar with media in Pakistan, I assumed good faith that these passes WP:IRS. I guess there is not a consensus that they do. If M.Billoo2000 can find non-gossip sources to verify content we can revisit this.--RightCowLeftCoast (Moo) 20:53, 20 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

I just saw this, and plan on going through this in the morning. (Too tired from shopping to do it today.)--Launchballer 21:12, 20 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

I've trimmed some of the less encyclopedic content, but (with apologies to @M.Billoo2000:) I think the sourcing is too rotten that I can salvage this in the next few days. I'm also out of hooks. I think this should go through GARC, where it can be renominated when something more interesting happens to her.--Launchballer 11:19, 21 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Launchballer Thanks for taking a look. It's already gone through GAN; does it need a GA reassessment? Dclemens1971 (talk) 15:12, 21 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I meant GAR, so yes.--Launchballer 15:16, 21 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

@Launchballer: Hi, hope you are doing well. That image was used intentionally. It shows her tattoos and her bent finger, as written in the alt text and inside the section Personal life. Also, for the hook, we can use a cropped version of the File:Aima Baig Multan concert.png. Thank you. M. Billoo 19:41, 24 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

MOS:IMAGEQUALITY suggests that images at an awkward angle should be avoided unless absolutely necessary. I don't think the added value of depicting her tattoos or her finger justifies a side profile. I have explicitly not used the image in the DYK nom because I want people to click the link to see if she does, though I'm happy for it to be used with any other hook.--Launchballer 20:10, 24 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Launchballer: You know I was new at DYK last year. But during this one year, I have seen many hooks working and many hooks underperforming. While I appreciate your thought process that you want people to click the link to see if she does, I see this hook as very straight forward and not unusual, which may not trigger interest in a random reader. Do you have any other suggestions for the DYK which may be used with an image?
Secondly, I had uploaded all the images and I found only this one to be a straight face. But, I did not use this image because it has a logo of VOA. If straight face is a must requirement, we can instead use File:Aima Baig 2019 (3).png. Thank you. M. Billoo 13:03, 25 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
The 2019 images are rather blurry, and the WP:Photography workshop can get rid of the logo. I'm thinking "that Aima Baig won a Pakistani award for a song inspired by Latin music", but I'll let you add it to the nom.--Launchballer 13:24, 25 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Recently, I saw a DYK like Elinor Barker, where it shows acheivement while going through some personal health... Can a similar hook be suggested for Aima Baig as well? Like she continues performing while suffering with rheumatoid arthritis. M. Billoo 18:06, 25 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hmm. There's a difference between winning an Olympic medal while pregnant and performing with arthritis, but I'm struggling to explain what that is. I'm going to let you propose that ALT.--Launchballer 16:47, 26 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
  • @Dclemens1971, Launchballer, and RightCowLeftCoast: Hi, thank you for your time. Really sorry and please do not mind, but I do not consider it a fair result, despite I tried presenting defence. @Launchballer: I am unable to understand how does the mass removal fall under WP:INDISCRIMINATE?
@LastJabberwocky, LEvalyn, Mox Eden, and Dr. Blofeld: Pinging other editors as well, who may be involved in past few months to review and help me updating the page quality. Any helpful suggestions will be most welcome. Also, how can this go over DYK again? Thank you! M. Billoo 17:09, 21 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think it's pretty well-established that "Web Desk"/"Entertainment Desk" unbylined stories, even from otherwise reliable South Asian publications like Dawn or the Times of India, are basically churnalism and not suitable for GA/DYK, especially for BLPs since they just regurgitate social media posts that would otherwise not be allowed to be basis of coverage. Once I saw the extent to which the Aima Baig article relied on these, my view is that the article cannot move forward at DYK. I also question the encyclopedic value of the material on her tattoos and arthritis, for example, but I would accept its inclusion if it could be sourced to reliable secondary sources, not gossip/tabloid/churnalism sources. Dclemens1971 (talk) 17:24, 21 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
But scrutiny can be done as well. As you said earlier, ABOUTSELF can be used from the subject's own social media. What I think is, that it can also be used when it is published by an interviewer under WP:IV. Am I correct? Also friendly pinging TarnishedPath, with whom I have been involved in a number of RSNs about video references, starting from the article Savannah Bond. M. Billoo 17:33, 21 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Part of what helps editors know material is DUE is whether it's published in a reliable secondary source. If a source is known for just regurgitating any social media post (or reprinting any press release, for that matter), then it's hard to know to what extent the material deserves inclusion. This kind of material basically becomes a primary source, and there are extra strong cautions/restrictions on using primary sources for BLPs. Dclemens1971 (talk) 17:40, 21 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
If this is about usage of stuff from interviews with the subject see Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard/Archive378#Starting formal Request for Comment for WP:BLPSPS and videos. However, DUE still needs to be consdiered. Beyond that I know nothing about this subject. TarnishedPathtalk 23:57, 21 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Most of what I removed was stuff that isn't useful on an encyclopedic level; for example, 'singer does a random gig'. GAs only ever become eligible for DYK again if they lose their status via GAR and are later repromoted.--Launchballer 21:35, 21 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Atleast please re-add the comtext that she had been in the fashion/modelling as well. Otherwise, the 2025 "Most Stylish Award" would be weightless and the term "model" in the lead and infobox would be unsupported. Also, the answer to video references / interviews is pending. M. Billoo 22:08, 21 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I don't know what you mean by "the 2025 "Most Stylish Award" would be weightless", but I removed 'model' from the lead. As for the WP:INTERVIEWs, reliability sits with the publisher but I tend to work on the principle that if a secondary source hasn't picked up on it, then it probably isn't due. I'm going to nominate this for GAR now; my strong advice to you is let it delist and renominate for DYK when it goes back through GA. (Also, come armed with an interesting hook.)--Launchballer 10:20, 22 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Significant portions of this are cited to unbylined "Web Desk"/"Entertainment Desk" pieces, which are a) not suitable for a BLP and b) mean that this deserves {{unreliable sources}}, which is a disqualifier. Courtesy ping to @Dclemens1971:, who first raised concerns at the DYK nom. Launchballer 10:30, 22 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Probably worth mentioning that a number of un-bylined articles are published by Pakistani journalists who prefer to remain anonymous for political reasons (see [Journalists are never truly free in Pakistan). However, the subject isn't directly political. I have no opinion. —LastJabberwocky (Rrarr) 11:03, 22 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Delist. Some of the more egregious WP:BLPGOSSIP violations have been removed, but I still count approximately 44 sources used in this article at the moment that are unbylined stories in South Asian news outlets. These are not political, as suggested by LastJabberwocky; these are tabloid/gossip/aggregation stories. Examples: gossip speculation about her dating life based on one of her instagram posts, a summary of her remarks on a podcast, an aggregation of random internet commentary on whether a Baig video is copying a Taylor Swift video, another aggregation of random internet comments about a Baig performance, and a summary of some kind of social media feud. None of this is original journalism; it's churnalism that launders social media posts and internet commentary into "news" articles. We don't use social media posts (except for WP:ABOUTSELF in very specific and limited uses) or user-generated internet comments to source our articles; why would we use "news" sources that are entirely based on those posts and comments with virtually no original reporting? Furthermore, these unbylined pieces are also highly promotional and opinionated (see WP:NEWSORGINDIA). Example: This seems to have been Aima Baig’s year with all that she’s achieved — is it Aima Baig’s world and we’re just living in it? It's refreshing to see female artists step up and truly rock it. I believe these sorts of sources must be used sparingly, if at all, in a GA, and this article has extensive passages relying on them. This should never have been passed as a GA in its reviewed state and it should not be eligible now. Dclemens1971 (talk) 11:37, 22 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
