Objection of Proposed Deletion

[edit]

Hello, @Howard the Duck. I would like to respectfully oppose the proposed deletion of yours to this article, citing concerns related to its failing of WP:BANDMEMBER. While I understand the concerns about her notability in the context of her association with Bini, I believe the article demonstrates significant independent notability that warrants its retention.

Independent Notability

  1. Miss Silka Philippines - Her crowning as Miss Silka Philippines 2018 was a notable achievement that garnered substantial media attention and coverage. I believe that this recognition highlights her prominence in pageants long before she joined the group.
  2. Media coverage and references independent of the main article - I have used 11 references, which are independent or have not been used in the Bini (group). While some of these primarily cover the group as a whole, it also covers Aiah individually for her career, such as her unsuccessful auditions for Pinoy Big Brother: Otso and Darna, her appearance in Jeremy G's music video for the song "Bini", and her role as the featured artist in the remix version of the same song.

These activities and media coverage, while small in scale relative to what is commonly known as notable, demonstrate that Aiah has achieved a significant public profile separate from her work with their group, supporting her notability as an individual.

The content of this article is also distinct from that of the main group's article. It includes substantial information and references about her achievements and experiences, ensuring that the article is not merely a duplicate of the group’s content but rather a focused account of her accomplishments.

I recognize that you may still find these insufficient to establish her notability. However, I believe that the coverage and achievements highlighted provide a compelling case for her independent notability. For now, I will not remove the PROD message until I hear your thoughts or feedback regarding my rationale. Thank you. AstrooKai (TalkContribs) 12:27, 23 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Just remove the PROD. I'd just bring this to WP:AFD in a month or so. Howard the Duck (talk) 12:45, 23 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Her winning a beauty pageant I've never heard of before, failed participation in a reality show, bit appearance in a TV show and a music video doesn't really move the needle if I say so. Howard the Duck (talk) 12:49, 23 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
If you want to learn about her winning in the beauty pageant, you can read these articles from Rappler, ABS-CBN News (independent of her since she wasn't an auditionee during that time), PEP.ph, and Cosmo.ph. Though these news articles are labelled as promotional articles for the brand, which falls under WP:SPONSORED, ultimately failing WP:RS.
Overall, while these do not strongly justify the retention of the article, I appreciate your action in pointing out the issues regarding the article's notability. Your insights are valuable and will certainly guide me in the future. Thank you again. AstrooKai (TalkContribs) 13:18, 23 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Aiah (singer)Aiah – Currently, the link Aiah redirects to List of minor Hebrew Bible figures, A–K#Aiah, which contains only a brief mention of the biblical figure. In contrast, Aiah (the subject of this article) refers to a member of the Philippine girl group Bini, which has already established notability. In addition to the group's prominence, the singer herself is individually notable, particularly for her personal project "Aiahdvocacy", which has received significant coverage from various Philippine media outlets. The singer has considerably more notability than the biblical figure, and no other notable individuals have an article beginning with "Aiah". Given the singer's greater notability, I believe the "(singer)" disambiguator is also unnecessary, and these satisfies the criteria outlined in WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. AstrooKai (Talk) 12:15, 14 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

  • Support: There is no disambiguation on Aiah. The WP:BAND of Aiah was notable which AstrooKai stated. Also, (not disrespecting) The biblical figure of a section on List of minor Hebrew Bible figures, A–K#Aiah it's just a word or context like it's just a meaning of Aiah on Hebrew Bible, I believe that Aiah (the subject of this article) is way more notable than a meaning of Aiah in Hebrew.

Aiah's image(s)

[edit]

I tried to put Aiah's old image in the body of the article, but it was removed because it "doesn't show a significant difference between the lead photo, the article is not big enough, and it offers no encyclopedic value." Her current lead photo is adorable, and the quality of the photo itself is great. But looking at this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Images

I believe it may not be a good lead photo for Aiah. Her pet dog has no relevance to her career/work as a public figure, but it is prominently featured. Her eyes also seem closed. The photo, although beautiful, does not serve as a good illustration of Aiah's facial features, which is what a lead photo should be. It's a visual reference for the subject.

Hoping this can be discussed and/or resolved :) Bloomagiliw (talk) 16:48, 28 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

I think the main issue here is that having two portrait size images of her is a bit redundant. I do not have strong feeling though on which image should remain on the page. Borgenland (talk) 16:51, 28 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I understand that. Just thought to raise these concerns about the current lead photo. Bloomagiliw (talk) 16:52, 28 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
I removed the second photo from the article because it is redundant. If you open the article on a desktop browser and saw another portrait image of her on your first scroll of the article, you would think of the following: "Why is there another picture of her here?", "What's the purpose of this other photo?"
In a nutshell, while "more images" is better, balancing it relative the length of the article is a must. At this moment, the article is still short enough for another photo of her. Unless the article is as long as Regine Velasquez, but in this case, it is not.
As for the new photo in the infobox, you would want to ask @Royiswariii about that. AstrooKai (Talk) 22:38, 28 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

A research paper published by Katipunan journal is "original research"?

[edit]

Hello, @AstrooKai. Just wanna ask why you removed the Katipunan study mention because it's "original research." The paper is published by Katipunan, a double blind peer-reviewed academic journal (meaning it's a reliable source according to the very policy that you cited, WP:OR).

The paper cited says this: "Bukod sa mga musical streaming platform, maaari ring mailahad ang sariling identidad at kultura sa ganitong pamamaraan gaya ng mga miyembro na sina Aiah at Colet ng sikat na P-pop girl group na BINI kung saan pinaiiral pa rin nila ang kanilang pagiging Bisaya sa mga live video stream at mga panayam. [...] Dagdag pa rito, kamakailan lamang ay inilahad muli ni Aiah ang kaniyang pagkakakilanlan bilang isang Bisaya sa BINIverse, ang kauna-unahang konsiyerto ng grupo. Inawit din ni Aiah sa parehong okasyon ang kantang 'Woman' ni Doja Cat, at nagdagdag siya ng kaniyang sariling Bisaya na rap verse." (Page 243: https://archium.ateneo.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1115&context=katipunan)

If you put the paragraph in Google Translate to verify, this is what GT says: "Aside from musical streaming platforms, one can also express one's identity and culture in this way, as seen in members Aiah and Colet of the popular P-pop girl group BINI, who still maintain their Visayan identity through live video streams and interviews. [...] In addition, Aiah recently re-expressed her identity as a Visayan at BINIverse, the group's first concert. Aiah also sang Doja Cat's song 'Woman' on the same occasion, adding her own Visayan rap verse."

I'd like to add it again to the page, if you wouldn't mind. I've also used this particular paper as a source for multiple statements on Visayan pop, which was granted GA status. Bloomagiliw (talk) 12:28, 2 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

You're right that Katipunan is a reliable, peer-reviewed journal. However, my concern is less about reliability and more about WP:OR.
A research paper is a primary source for its own findings. Directly using a primary research paper to state a person's 'influence' can be seen as original synthesis or giving undue weight to a single academic observation, unless that observation is widely discussed by other independent secondary sources.
As WP:PRIMARY states:
  • Any interpretation of primary source material requires a reliable secondary source for that interpretation. While a primary source is generally the best source for its own contents, even over a summary of the primary source elsewhere, do not put undue weight on its contents.
  • Do not analyze, evaluate, interpret, or synthesize material found in a primary source yourself; instead, refer to reliable secondary sources that do so.
While the academic paper makes an observation about Aiah and Colet, using this direct observation from a primary research paper to state a person's 'influence' or a conclusion about their broader impact can be seen as an interpretation or synthesis that should ideally come from an independent secondary source.
If you find reliable secondary sources that discuss this specific paper's findings about Aiah's influence, or other independent secondary sources that credit her with this representation in the broader media, I would be happy for them to be included in the section, especially the latter. AstrooKai (Talk) 12:45, 2 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
It would be better if you could find secondary sources to support this observation about her representation, instead of relying solely on that research paper. If the paper came into this conclusion, it's very likely that other independent magazines or news articles have also made similar observations. AstrooKai (Talk) 12:50, 2 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Middle Name

[edit]

Why isn't Aiah's middle name included like the other BINI girls? You can actually find a post of her mother on FB calling her Maraiah Queen Jaraula Arceta when she won Miss Silka Philippines 2018. Her brother also posted a graduation picture captioned "Arceta, Bryan King Jaraula." Babyronii (talk) 15:06, 8 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Please read the FAQ above that specifically addresses the issue regarding her middle name.
Social media posts are not considered reliable here on Wikipedia, and most news sources don't even include her middle name. If they do, then we will include it too. AstrooKai (Talk) 02:27, 9 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Question

[edit]

Could this be used as a source for Aiah's maternal surname being Jaraula? https://keeta.ph/get-to-know-the-bisaya-2001-liners-of-k-pop-and-p-pop/
The site describes itself as "highly curated" with a "clear editorial voice." It seems to be a Cebuano/Visayan-oriented online magazine.
Author of the article is one of those journalists who regularly write about P-pop across various reliable sources (similar journalists: Hannah Mallorca and Hans Ethan Carbonilla who both have a bunch of P-pop-related articles published in the Philippine Daily Inquirer). Author is cited in other articles like this one: Shirt (SZA song) - GA-class (Some deemed the lyrics vivid; it was one of the compliments Julienne Pal Loreto from The Line of Best Fit gave the song, which they wrote made it SOS's standout track and worth the two-year wait.)
Adequate source for Aiah's middle name or nah? Bloomagiliw (talk) 22:52, 25 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
