• Does anyone understand why Safari will encode spaces in the URL with %20 but Firefox will not? And the rationale to do it one way vs. another?

Chrome

Screenshots need updating

Recently, both Firefox and Chrome have removed the distinguishing visuals for sites with EV certificates, see this article. Websites accessed over plain HTTP now display warnings about them being insecure. I don't have a HiDPI display, so my screenshots would be terrible. --BertalanD (talk) 15:36, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

Not sure it's possible for the small handful of people watching this article to keep up with the armies of designers at the browser vendors. So, for the time being, I've simply added a clarifying statement that designs of the individual bits and bobs inside the address bar change quite frequently. It's bordering on "original research" but it'd be a bit tricky to support with sources without poring over release notes to find every time they removed an http: or switched the site favicon to a padlock, and then removed the padlock unless it was http: and then displayed a broken padlock instead… you get the picture. --Ernstkm (talk) 03:02, 27 November 2025 (UTC)

Removed screenshot of Chrome address bar loading ftp:// URL

I removed the screenshot added with no additional context by this rev. Including that particular screenshot only creates confusion, because Chrome 95 removed FTP support in 2021, and Chrome is already well represented with screenshots in the section after that. --Ernstkm (talk) 02:47, 27 November 2025 (UTC)
