- I don't have any answers about "sparse tableau formulation" or "sparse tableau approach". I used ASTAP extensively in the design of integrated circuits for mainframe computers. I worked one floor up from the people who were maintaining the program in the 1980s. The phrase I usually heard was "sparse matrices". But of course, I was a user of the program, not a developer.
