Website URL

[edit]

What is the URL of 8chan? Might want to include it in the article. 203.221.248.228 (talk) 13:23, 23 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

See the FAQ. GorillaWarfare (she/her • talk) 14:04, 23 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
There is a consensus to exclude the 8chan website from the external links section. Most editors agree that our moral obligation to not facilitate access to a website notable for containing child pornography overrides any benefit to the project derived from giv[ing] the reader the opportunity to see what the subject says about itself (WP:ELOFFICIAL).
Unless there's a legal obligation, there is a case for editors to reconsider. 203.221.248.228 (talk) 15:01, 23 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Start an RfC if you think consensus has changed since the last discussion, though I'm not sure what would have caused such a change. GorillaWarfare (she/her • talk) 15:13, 23 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Is there a legal obligation? 193.116.83.107 (talk) 15:30, 25 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
No, ant that is not a case for editors to consider. Doug Weller talk 16:38, 25 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
OK, treat the public like CP addicts then. Totally not derogatory. 193.116.83.107 (talk) 23:26, 25 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

More neutral language in section 'Christchurch mosque shootings'

[edit]

What I think should be changed

−
Prior to attacks on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, on March 15, 2019, the perpetrator, Brenton Harrison Tarrant, posted links to what was ultimately a 17-minute Facebook Live video of the first attack on Al Noor Mosque and his white nationalist, neo-fascist manifesto The Great Replacement (named after the French far-right conspiracy theory of the same name by writer Renaud Camus) detailing his anti-Islamic and anti-immigration reasons for the attack. The shootings overall left 51 dead and 40 more injured. Some members of 8chan re-shared it and applauded the attacks.

On March 20, 2019, Australian telecom companies Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone denied millions of Australians access to the websites 4chan, 8chan, Zero Hedge, and LiveLeak as a reaction to the Christchurch mosque shootings.

New Zealand ISPs Spark, One NZ, and 2degrees, with a near monopoly of the broadband and mobile market share in New Zealand, also followed suit in blocking 4chan, 8chan, Zero Hedge, and LiveLeak for a number of weeks following the shootings, blocking 8chan and other similar websites at a DNS level in an attempt to prevent the proliferation of widely accessible content that was classified as objectionable by the Chief Censor of New Zealand.

In New Zealand, the main ISPs, Spark, Vodafone, Vocus and 2degrees, also followed suit in blocking websites hosting footage of the shooting.

Reason More neutral and sources do not support claims

8moe?

[edit]

Following 8kun fiasco a significant chunk of site's userbase moved to 8chan.moe (or simply 8moe).

It has had its own controversy (/hebe/...), so would it make sense to describe it in the article? Not sure if there are reliable sources about it, though. ~2026-15006-34 (talk) 14:46, 9 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Remove the unnecessary space after "anti-zionism" (in the lead), before the comma. ~2026-40953-27 (talk) 05:19, 21 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
