It says here that in 491 BC "Leotychidas II succeeds his cousin Demaratus as king of Sparta", however, in 510 BC it says that "Hippias, son of Pisistratus and tyrant of Athens, was expelled by a popular revolt supported by Cleomenes I, King of Sparta and his forces" and in 488 BC it says that "Leonidas succeeds his brother Cleomenes I as king of Sparta, who was judged insane". In other words, Cleomenes I was king of Sparta during all this time, and there is no mention of Demaratus and Leotychidas II, nor is there any mention of them in the list of Kings in Sparta.
There were two kings of Sparta, and there are two lists on the Kings of Sparta page, where they are all listed. It's kind of confusing sometimes because the two kings didn't begin and end their rules together. Adam Bishop 20:49, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)
