Background

• Held annually at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, England, with the exception of 2020. I had to check the links to see if the event had been completely cancelled that year due to COVID or if it had been played elsewhere so it may be worth clarifying this.

Background

• The 2025 World Matchplay was the 32nd edition of the tournament to be staged by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) since the 1994 event. Would reword slightly to something like since the inaugural event in 1994 or since the event was first staged in 1994.

• Fixed - Greenflipper

• Humphries and reigning world champion Luke Littler were considered favourites to win the tournament, with Sky Sports pundits also naming Gerwyn Price and Nathan Aspinall as likely contenders. Is it that relevant that some unnamed pundits predicted the third and fifth favourites to have a good tournament? Pundits constantly make predictions before events and I haven't seen many make it onto Wiki. I see that a couple of other GA darts articles have this but it omits MVG who was the fourth favourite, and it seems a little unencyclopedic to me. Perhaps also state that it was the bookies who had Littler/Humphries as favourites.

1st Round

• James Wade, making his 20th consecutive appearance at the event, recorded his highest World Matchplay three-dart average (104). Why not give exact average of 104.44?

2nd round

• Littler went on to hit his preferred double 10 and complete a 13–11 comeback victory. Is preferred double 10 commentary here?

• however, at 9–6, Van Gerwen missed opportunities to extend his lead and allowed Rock to win four consecutive legs and take control for the first time. I would replace take control with take the lead, as a one leg lead is a pretty slim advantage even if it a break of throw.

Quarter-finals

• 42-year-old James Wade, appearing in his 13th World Matchplay quarter-final, faced 23-year-old Gian van Veen in the round's opening match; Isn't this just a very common age gap in darts matches? Every time Wright/Anderson/Gilding play a player under 25 the age gap is much bigger than this. Fine to give details on this in the 'final' section but I'm not sure it's necessary here.

• Wade uncharacteristically missed his first 11 attempts at double. I think uncharacteristically should be removed here. Any top darts player could be called this for missing eleven straight doubles.

• Ref 17 reads website=PDC which is an outlier as rest give name in full.

• I've replaced that one with the 2025 PDC preview article; the original ref was from when the prize money first changed in 2022. - Greenflipper

Images are fine, page is stable. Recommend adding archives, especially to PDC ones but not needed for GA.
