Why 19 teams?

Source citation for Man of the match

@PCN02WPS I see that you added in an Unreferenced section for the man of the match section, but is it necessary though? The man of the match of games in these tournaments are usually not officially communicated afterwards on the site of the CAF, but only on their Instagram (as a story, which makes citing a source pretty difficult). For the first match, I see that the official Instagram page of the Tanzanian football federation made a post about it, but wouldn't it be a bit of an overkill to add in every source for every man of the match? I dont see such a thing being done on other pages either, like the 2020 CHAN page. Massin34 (talk) 10:26, 3 August 2025 (UTC)

@Massin34 if we can't reliably source something then perhaps it would be best, in keeping with WP:V and WP:RS, not to include it. FWIW, I believe a citation to CAF's official instagram would be fine since we evaluate the source of the information rather than the platform it's on; I would think that an instagram post from CAF's official account would be just as reliable as a CAF press release or whatnot. But saying "it's too hard to cite a source so let's not bother" seems pretty much the polar opposite of some of Wikipedia's most basic principles. @PCN02WPS I think you misunderstood me. I'm not saying let's not bother because it's too hard to cite an Instagram post. What I meant to say is that the official CAF Instagram page usually only posts a story of the MOTM, which means that the source would be gone 24h after the game (since a story only stays up 24h on Instagram). As far as I know (and please correct me if I'm wrong) it's not possible to cite an Instagram Story, especially since the next day the source isn't there anymore. So that would mean a second-hand source should be cited every time, or if CAF releases an article about a game which mentions the MOTM, that article can be used, but for now, I'm not too sure that will happen for every game. CAF released a full list of every MOTM which is now referenced to in the MOTM section. I think that solves the discussion. Massin34 (talk) 18:16, 8 August 2025 (UTC)
