Seems the structure has been changed (improved) a bit. Medal count is now on separate pages - and the count is correct :-)

The Medal count table seems to be wrong. If the medal count was correct, at least the positions must be wrong. For instance Norway would pass the Unified Team and Sweden would beat the Netherlands.

From what I have been able to find from different sources on the internet (most notably the IOC medal winners search page: http://www.olympic.org/uk/athletes/results/search_r_uk.asp ) the correct list should read:

Nicolas Bochatay's death

It looks like the subheading has changed since this comment was made, which helps a bit. Still, the death was a notable (tragic) highlight from the games and should be retained.Kerdooskis (talk) 22:00, 9 September 2020 (UTC)

Demonstration Sports - Speed Skiing

The paragraph about speed skiing being evaluated at the '92 Olympics states: "...this possibility was extinguished when Swiss skier Nicolas Bochatay ran into a snow-grooming vehicle during a training run, dying immediately."

Bochatay was not doing a training run when this happened. The paragraph makes it sound like he was speed skiing when the accident happened, which is not true. According to this 1992 article from the LA Times:

"Bochatay apparently was skiing downhill, either in an informal warm-up session or while on his way to the competition area, when he hit a snow-grooming machine heading uphill, the Olympic organizing committee said. Hugo Steinegger, a spokesman for the organizers, said that Bochatay and teammate Pierre-Yves Jorand had been skiing on a public slope adjacent to the speed ski run"

I have yet to see the source for any actual reason given as to why speed skiing was deemed not suitable for the Olympics. ~2026-94614-4 (talk) 05:14, 12 February 2026 (UTC)
