"as they returned home"

"as they returned home" - the source quoted does not say it. it says "... killed six Jews returning from prayer in Hebron near the Beit Hadassah building." (Byman, Daniel (15 June 2011). A High Price: The Triumphs and Failures of Israeli Counterterrorism. Oxford University Press. p. 276. ISBN 9780199830459.)

Description of suggested change: the article currently manages to mention the word "settler" only once, and only in reference to a single victim, even though sources agree that all of them were settlers. this is a crucial context for understanding the attack; reading the article, one gets the impression that the victims were attacked solely because they were Jewish. it needs to be mentioned that the victims were settlers.

While in theory I agree that the word settler may have relevance, I think the edit request may be controversial. I would encourage you to seek a consensus from EC editors to request this change. The change concerns the lede of the article, which is often controversial on its own, but in this case, the word (jewish) "settler" places it very clearly in the context of the contentious topic that also lead to the restrictions on this article.

If another EC editor wants to implement this request, they should not feel burdened by my above statements and may go ahead, it need not be interpreted as an objection. Happy editing, Slomo666 (talk) 00:00, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

Not done for now: I would have no issue describing them as settlers if that were the case, but I think there is some uncertainty. You've provided some reliable sources that refer to 6 Israeli settlers, but from the Victims section of the article it appears that two of them (Tzvi Glatt and Shmuel Mermelstein) were students at yeshivas within Israel and were only visiting the yeshiva in Hebron. Since there's ambiguity as to whether all 6 were settlers, I'm going to close the request as not done for now. Day Creature (talk) 00:40, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
