ATM is part of ITU G.992.2

[edit]

The first sentence says that 1 Meg Modem is compliant with the ADSL Lite standard (ITU G.992.2), but the article later says that the framing used on the loop is ethernet, not ATM. Per my understanding and per (http://www.vocal.com/data_sheets/full/glite.pdf), both of these statements cannot be true, since ITU G.992.2 specifies ATM as its sole framing technique.

It may well be true that 1 Meg Modem is compliant to T1.413, Issue 2, as is indicated at by the FCC press release, "NORTHERN TELECOM FILES PETITION FOR WAIVER, PUBLIC COMMENT INVITED; File No.: NSD-L-98-135", but this would speak only to the physical layer, like the spectral mask and so on, and would not describe the link layer framing.

It also appears to be true that ethernet is the uplink type (http://www.engassoc.com/newsmay00c.html), but that does not require that the framing on the loop be ethernet, although it may well be.

Thoughts, anyone? Mmccalpin 14:48, 13 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Restore original page name: 1-Meg Modem

[edit]

Since the name of the product is 1-Meg Modem (see http://www.nortel.com/corporate/news/newsreleases/1999c/9_29_9999613_1mm_fcc.html), this name is the most appropriate one. Isaac Lin (talk) 23:24, 22 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
