Sun Shuopeng (Chinese: 孙硕鹏; born September 1970) is a Chinese politician who has served as a Vice Minister of Civil Affairs since August 2026. A member of the Chinese Communist Party, he previously served in senior positions in the Red Cross Society of China, including as vice president, and as president of the China National Committee on Aging.[1][2]
Biography
[edit]Sun Shuopeng was born in September 1970 in Chifeng, Inner Mongolia. He graduated from Inner Mongolia Normal University with a master's degree in literature. He began his career as a teacher at Shuangqiao Technical School in Chaoyang District, Beijing, before entering the civil affairs administration.[3]
Beginning in 1995, Sun held a series of positions in the Beijing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau, including positions in the bureau's preferential treatment and placement division and general office. He subsequently served as deputy director of the general office and director of the bureau's computer information center. He later became director of the disaster relief division and director of the Beijing Urban and Rural Residents Minimum Living Security Center, followed by service as director of the bureau's personnel and organizational affairs division.[4]
In August 2007, Sun was appointed a member of the Communist Party committee and vice president of the Beijing Red Cross Society. In June 2008, he additionally became chairman of the Beijing Red Cross Foundation. In July 2012, he was appointed executive vice chairman and secretary-general of the Chinese Red Cross Foundation.[5]
In September 2019, Sun became a member of the Communist Party committee and vice president of the Red Cross Society of China. During his tenure with the Red Cross Society, he led the China Red Cross 999 Rescue Team in earthquake relief operations following the 2008 Sichuan earthquake and the 2010 Yushu earthquake.[6] The team received the national honorary designation of a "Heroic Collective in Earthquake Relief" from the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, the State Council, and the Central Military Commission on two occasions.[7][2][8]
In June 2025, Sun was appointed a member of the Communist Party committee of the Ministry of Civil Affairs and president of the China National Committee on Aging. In August 2026, the State Council appointed him Vice Minister of Civil Affairs and removed him from his position as president of the China National Committee on Aging.[9]
