Seamfix is a Nigerian technology company that provides identity management, digital verification, and software solutions. Founded in October 2007 by Nigerian entrepreneurs Chimezie Emewulu (co-founder and chief executive officer) and Chibuzor Onwurah (co-founder),[1] the company develops biometric, database, and digital identity systems for individuals, government agencies, and private-sector organisations.[2][3]

Seamfix has expanded its operations to some African countries and maintains international offices in the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates.[4]

History

Founded in October 2007 by recent graduates Chimezie Emewulu and Chibuzor Onwurah, Seamfix began as a small software venture[5]building custom software for local businesses.[6]Seamfix developed identity and biometric systems during Nigeria's early digital reforms.[7] The company provided SIM registration solutions to telecommunications operators, including MTN Nigeria.[8]

Throughout the 2010s, the company expanded into large-scale national identity projects, including developing mobile and Android-based enrolment platforms for institutions such as the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS).[7]

By the late 2010s and early 2020s, Seamfix had grown into a regional technology provider with operations across multiple African countries. The company also opened international offices in the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates.[8]

In 2019, Seamfix was included in the London Stock Exchange Group's Companies to Inspire Africa 2019 report.[9][10] In 2021, Seamfix opened an office in Berkshire, England. In 2024,[11] Seamfix secured US $4.5 million from Alitheia IDF to scale its technology infrastructure and expand digital identity and credential services into five additional African countries.[12][13]

Telecommunications

Seamfix delivered SIM registration solutions for major telecommunications operators such as MTN, Airtel, and the defunct Starcomms. Seamfix is a member of the GSMA[14] and has participated in the MWC Barcelona.[15]In 2015, Seamfix worked with MTN Nigeria on SIM registration and identity verification when the latter was fined $5.2 billion for non-compliant SIM cards.[16]The company later provided registration systems for MTN operations in Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Guinea and Sudan.[17][18]

Identity and financial services

Seamfix developed an android-based enrolment system used in the National Identification Numbers (NIN) registration process.[19] Seamfix also served as a Diamond Sponsor for the 2025 National Identity Day in Abuja.[20][21]

Ahead of Nigeria’s 2019 general election, Seamfix’s BioRegistra platform was used to digitise civic engagement data, recording over 1,666 individuals expressing active interest in participating in the electoral process.[22]Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) also contracted Seamfix to provide the Android system for Bank Verification Number (BVN) enrolment programme.[23]

In December 2025, Seamfix and the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS) announced a partnership involving the development of PGATE,[24]a compliance platform integrating identity verification and transaction governance in support of cross-border trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area.[25][26] Seamfix also announced the launch of ePass, a self-service digital platform that allows citizens of the Republic of Benin living abroad to apply for and renew their international passports online.[27]

In August 2026, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Seamfix and the Cooperative Federation of Nigeria signed an agreement to develop and deploy the National Cooperative Smart Registry, a digital platform for registering and verifying cooperative societies and their members.[28]

Charity

Seamfix partnered with Slum2School to renovate a classroom in Tarkwa Bay into an early childhood development centre.[29] The project followed a January 2020 disaster that displaced the local community and left children without adequate educational facilities.[30][31]

Awards

In 2019, Seamfix was recognised by the London Stock Exchange Group as one of the “Companies to Inspire Africa 2019.”[32] Jobberman, a Nigerian employment and recruitment platform, ranked Seamfix 63rd among the Best 100 Companies to Work For in Nigeria in 2016[33] and 29th in the 2018 edition.[34]
