Seamfix is a Nigerian technology company that specialises in identity management, digital verification, and software solutions. Founded in October 2007 by Nigerian entrepreneurs Chimezie Emewulu (co-founder and chief executive officer) and Chibuzor Onwurah (co-founder),[1] the company develops biometric, database, and digital identity systems for individuals, government agencies, and private-sector organisations across Africa and beyond.[2][3]

Seamfix has expanded its operations to some African countries and maintains international offices in the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates.[4] Since its inception, the company has grown from an annual revenue of approximately US $500 in 2007 to over seven-figure USD revenues in recent years, achieving this scale without external investor funding.[5]

History

Founded in October 2007 by recent graduates Chimezie Emewulu and Chibuzor Onwurah, Seamfix began as a small software venture.[6] Starting with limited resources and just $500 in initial revenue, the founders grew the company by building custom software for local businesses.[7]

Seamfix broke through by developing identity and biometric systems during Nigeria's early digital reforms.[8] They gained national prominence by providing SIM registration solutions to major telecom operators, including, Airtel, MTN Nigeria, and Starcomms.

Throughout the 2010s, the company expanded into large-scale national identity projects, including developing mobile and Android-based enrolment platforms for institutions such as the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS). These projects positioned Seamfix as a key technology partner in Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to strengthen identity infrastructure and financial inclusion.[8]

By the late 2010s and early 2020s, Seamfix had grown into a regional technology provider with operations across multiple African countries. The company also opened international offices in the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates, representing its transition from a local Nigerian tech startup to a global digital identity solutions provider.

In 2019, Seamfix was recognised by the London Stock Exchange Group as one of the "Companies to Inspire Africa 2019", marking a significant milestone in its evolution.[9][10] In 2021, Seamfix opened an office in Berkshire, England. In 2024,[11] Seamfix secured US $4.5 million from Alitheia IDF to scale its technology infrastructure and expand digital identity and credential services into five additional African countries.[12][13]

Seamfix delivered SIM registration solutions for major telecommunications operators such as MTN, Airtel, and the defunct Starcomms. Its customised SIM registration portal remains in use by MTN Nigeria. Seamfix is a member of the GSMA[14] and has participated in the MWC Barcelona.[15]

When MTN was fined $5.2 billion in 2015 for non-compliant SIM cards, it partnered with Seamfix to overhaul its identity infrastructure.[16] Seamfix captured over 70 million biometric records, restoring MTN’s compliance within ten days. MTN then deployed Seamfix’s BioSmart solution to register and verify over 30 million subscribers across Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Guinea, and Sudan.[17][18]

Identity and financial services

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued National Identification Numbers (NIN) to over 100 million Nigerians. A key enabler is Seamfix’s Android Enrolment Solution, a mobile app allowing agents to quickly and affordably enroll citizens nationwide, even in remote areas. Strengthening this partnership, Seamfix also served as a Diamond Sponsor for the 2025 National Identity Day in Abuja.[19][20][21]

Ahead of Nigeria’s 2019 general election, Seamfix’s BioRegistra platform was used to digitise civic engagement data, recording over 1,666 individuals expressing active interest in participating in the electoral process.[22] The company also received a contract from the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) to provide the Android Bank Verification Number (BVN) enrolment system, supporting Nigeria’s financial inclusion initiatives in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Shared Agent Network Expansion Facilities (SANEF).

In December 2025, Seamfix partnered with the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS),[23][24] operated by Afreximbank, to enhance regulatory oversight for real-time cross-border payments across Africa.[25] The collaboration includes the development of PGATE, a compliance platform integrating identity verification and transaction governance in support of cross-border trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). In December 2026, Seamfix also announced the global launch of ePass, a self-service digital platform that allows citizens of the Republic of Benin living abroad to apply for and renew their international passports online without visiting embassies or consular offices.[26]

Charity

As part of its corporate social responsibility, Seamfix partnered with Slum2School to renovate a damaged classroom into an early childhood development center in Tarkwa Bay.[27] The project followed a January 2020 disaster that displaced the local community and left children without adequate educational facilities.[28][29]

In 2019, Seamfix was recognised by the London Stock Exchange Group as one of the “Companies to Inspire Africa 2019.”[30] Jobberman, a Nigerian employment and recruitment platform, ranked Seamfix 63rd among the Best 100 Companies to Work For in Nigeria in 2016[31] and 29th in the 2018 edition.[32]
