U5 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein 40 kDa protein (or U5-40K) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the gene SNRNP40 (previously WDR57). This gene is found in many organisms, including, but not limited to Homo sapiens, Gallus gallus, Pan troglodytes, Canus familiaris, Bos taurus, Mus musculus, and Rattus norvegicus.[5]

Function

[edit]

U5-40K is a component of the U5 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP) particle. The U5 snRNP is part of the spliceosome, a multiprotein complex that catalyzes the removal of introns from pre-messenger RNAs.[5]

Interactions

[edit]

U5-40K has been shown to interact with PRPF8[6][7] and EFTUD2.[6][7]
