Ram Lall or Dewan Ram Lall was an Indian Judge and the first Indian Chief Justice of the earstwhile East Punjab High Court, now Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Early life and education
[edit]Lall was born in the Punjab Province of British India. He completed his early education in Lahore and graduated from Government College, Lahore. He was later called to the bar at Middle Temple in London.[2] After returning to India, Lall started practice in Lahore. He served as an Advocate General of Punjab. In 1938, he became the additional Judge of the Lahore High Court.[3] After the Partition of India in August 1947, the Punjab High Court was bifurcated. The East Punjab High Court was established at Simla and Justice Lal was appointed Chief Justice of the Punjab High Court on 19 January 1948.[4][5]
