Rachel Alig is an American actress. She has appeared in independent films including Bikini Spring Break (2012), 12/12/12 (2012), The Cleaning Lady (2018), First Blush (2020), Wives of the Skies (2020), Girl Next (2021), Digging to Death (2021), Family Portrait (2023), and Omaha (2025).[2][3][4][5][6][7]
Early life and education
[edit]Alig was born to Susan and Jon Alig in 1987.[1] She attended Dixie Heights High School in Kentucky and later studied electronic media at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2009.[8]
Career
[edit]In the mid-2010s, Alig was cast in lead roles after auditioning through Backstage Magazine.[9][10] In 2015, she played Olivia in Peter Daskaloff's science-fiction comedy Sex and the Single Alien.[11]
In 2018, Alig starred as Shelly, a scarred maintenance worker who develops an obsession with another woman, in Jon Knautz's psychological horror film The Cleaning Lady.[3][12][13] Her performance received positive reviews. Ben Robins of HeyUGuys called Alig "terrific" and praised her portrayal of Shelly's restrained demeanor as the character becomes increasingly dangerous.[14] Writing for the Alliance of Women Film Journalists, Liz Whittemore praised Alig's emotional range and the anguish she conveyed through the character.[3] Dax Ebaben of Bloody Disgusting also praised Alig and co-star Alexis Kendra and discussed the complexity given to both women's characters.[12]
Alig subsequently starred as Nena in the romantic drama First Blush.[5][6][7] Reviewing the film for Film Inquiry, Clement Tyler Obropta discussed Alig's portrayal of Nena's anxiety and highlighted a largely dialogue-free scene between Alig and Kate Beecroft as a showcase for their performances.[15]
In 2021, she appeared as Charlotte in the horror film Girl Next. A review in Rue Morgue singled out Charlotte as having some of the film's more substantial character development.[4]
Alig later joined the casts of Shadows,[16] Mistake,[17] Our Family Pride,[18] and Lucy Kerr's Family Portrait, which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival and was subsequently released theatrically in the United States.[19]
