R Mall is a shopping mall situated in Mulund, a suburb of Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. The mall opened in 2003 and is the second oldest mall in Mumbai and the oldest in the Mumbai Suburban district.[1] It was developed by Runwal Developers Pvt. Ltd. and designed by Chapman Taylor & Partners of the United Kingdom. The mall has a total floor area of 250,000 sq ft (23,000 m2) with a street frontage of 700 ft (210 m), distributed across four air-conditioned floors of approximately 80,000 sq ft (7,000 m2) each. The site includes a seven-level car park.
History
[edit]R Mall was developed by Runwal Developers Pvt. Ltd. and opened in 2003, during a period of rapid growth in organised retail in the suburban districts of Mumbai.[1][2] The mall was designed by Chapman Taylor & Partners, a British architectural firm.
On 17 April 2005, a short circuit caused a fire at the mall.[3]
R Mall is a member of the Shopping Centres Association of India.[4]
Cinema
[edit]The mall includes a multiplex cinema on its third floor. The cinema originally opened as R Adlabs, operated by Adlabs Films, with four screens and approximately 1,300 seats. Following corporate changes within the Adlabs cinema chain, the multiplex was subsequently rebranded as Big Cinemas and later as Carnival Cinemas.
In September 2023, Miraj Cinemas opened a refurbished multiplex at R Mall, marking the chain's tenth multiplex in Mumbai at the time of opening.[5] The refurbished four-screen cinema has a combined seating capacity of 1,276 and includes premium recliner and sofa seating options. The facility is equipped with Dolby Atmos sound and laser projection technology.[5]
