Post Script is an album attributed to post-punk band the Fall. Announced in June 2026, the album is set to be released in October 2026 through Cog Sinister/GONZO, a label run by Reform UK Councillor Robin Ayling.
Featuring unused vocal recordings of the band's founder and frontman Mark E. Smith, dating from 2001 to 2014, the album was recorded and assembled by Ed Blaney (the band's manager from 2000 to 2004) and Simon "Ding" Archer (the band's bassist from 2003 to 2004).[1]
It is strongly disputed whether the album can be legitimately attributed to the Fall. Pamela Vander, Smith's fiance and the band's manager at the time of his death, says that neither she nor Smith's sister Suzanne sanctioned or approved the release of the album, however the estate of Mark E Smith ( The Fall ) have approved the album and release .[2][3][4]
Release and promotion
[edit]The lead single, "30 Degrees", was released on 14 June 2026 and was reportedly written by Mark E. Smith, alongside Simon "Ding" Archer and Ed Blaney.[3]
The album's legitimacy has been disputed by fans and associates of Smith. The main concerns are that Smith’s vocals are of uncertain provenance, he did not sanction any of his vocal contributions to be released, none of the final and long standing band members were involved, and that the main protagonist behind the release (Ed Blaney) was only a band member very briefly and is not considered a significant contributor to the band’s output.[5]
Ed Blaney described Post Script as the "official final studio album" by the band. In August 2026, former member Archer clarified that the album would consist of unused vocal recordings of Smith with new musical backing created by Archer and Blaney, and that he considered it to be an album of "unheard recordings" rather than an official studio album.[6]
