Patria Club de Fútbol, commonly known as Patria CF (English: Patria Football Club), was a Spanish association football club based in the town of Puebla de la Calzada, in the autonomous community of Extremadura. Founded in 1925, the club dissolved in 1929.[1]
History
[edit]Patria Club de Fútbol was officially founded on 1 January 1925 in Puebla de la Calzada (region Badajoz). During its brief existence, the club played its home matches at the Santa Amalia ground.[2][3]
Despite being a regional team from a small town, many of Patria's players operated on a practically professional level, dedicating themselves exclusively to football.[4]
The club faced economic and structural challenges and eventually dissolved in 1929, shortly before the start of the regional championships that year. Following its dissolution, there was a notable exodus of its prominent players to other teams in the region.[4] The footballing legacy of the town was later carried on by other local clubs, such as AD Puebla Patria (founded in 1976) and EF Puebla de la Calzada (founded in 2007).[5][6]
Patria FC played against Real Madrid CF in 1928 Copa del Rey scoring 1 goal in a 10–1 lose in a two-legs matches.[7]
