Packeta is a Czech logistics group providing parcel-delivery services for e-commerce. It operates staffed pick-up points, automated parcel lockers and home delivery. The business was founded in 2010 by Czech entrepreneur Simona Kijonková as Zásilkovna, which remains its main brand in the Czech Republic.[1]
Packeta expanded across Central and Eastern Europe and organised its international operations under the Packeta Group name in 2018.[1] Its largest markets are the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary.
In 2025, it handled 184 million parcels and reported revenue of more than CZK 10 billion.[2]
History
[edit]Founding and early growth
[edit]Kijonková founded Zásilkovna in 2010 to give online retailers a network of locations where customers could collect their orders. The company became profitable in 2013, when it employed about 50 people and served around 3,000 online retailers.[1]
Zásilkovna expanded abroad during the mid-2010s. By 2015, it was active in Slovakia and Poland and had opened an office in Budapest, Hungary.[3] It later entered other European markets, including Romania and Germany.[1]
In 2018, the international businesses were organised under the Packeta Group name.[1] Zásilkovna continued to be used in the Czech Republic, while Packeta became the main name for operations abroad.
The company gradually added new delivery services. It introduced consumer-to-consumer parcel delivery in 2019 and began installing its own automated lockers, branded Z-BOX, in 2020.[4]
Growth accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic, as more shopping moved online. Revenue almost doubled in 2020 to nearly CZK 2.5 billion, while parcel volumes rose to about 40.5 million.[5]
Sale to CVC and EMMA Capital
[edit]Packeta's shareholders began looking for a buyer in 2023. In December, they agreed to sell the business to a consortium of CVC Capital Partners and Czech investment firm EMMA Capital, with capital support from R2G. CVC was to hold 65 per cent and EMMA Capital 35 per cent.[6]
The European Commission approved the acquisition in March 2024, with CVC and EMMA acquiring joint control of Packeta.[7][8]
Kijonková left the management of the business after the sale. She was succeeded as chief executive by Erich Čomor, who had previously held menagement positions at Rohlik Group.[9]
Developments since 2024
[edit]In June 2024, the CVC–EMMA consortium agreed to acquire Hungarian parcel-locker company FoxPost.[10] FoxPost was later combined with Packeta's Hungarian operations, while the FoxPost brand was retained.[11]
Packeta's revenue increased from CZK 7.25 billion in 2023 to CZK 8.46 billion in 2024. Parcel volumes rose by 24 per cent to about 130 million.[12] In 2025, including FoxPost, it handled 184 million parcels and revenue exceeded CZK 10 billion.[2]
In October 2025, Zásilkovna began allowing other parcel carriers to use its Czech Z-BOX network. DPD was the first external carrier to join the system.[13]
Operations
[edit]Packeta delivers parcels for online retailers and consumers. Customers can receive parcels at staffed pick-up points, automated lockers or residential addresses.[7]
In the Czech Republic, the company operates as Zásilkovna and calls its parcel lockers Z-BOXes. In Hungary, it uses the FoxPost brand following the integration of the two businesses.[10]
Its largest markets are the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary. It also operates in Romania and Slovenia, while partner carriers extend its delivery network into other countries.[2]
By the end of 2024, Packeta had almost 19,000 staffed pick-up points and parcel lockers across all of active markets.[12]
Competition proceedings
[edit]The Czech Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS) began investigating Zásilkovna in 2020 over contracts that restricted some operators of its pick-up points from also handling parcels for competing delivery companies.[14]
In April 2024, ÚOHS accepted commitments from Zásilkovna to change the contracts and ended the proceedings subject to their implementation. The authority said the changes addressed its competition concerns and could make more than 3,400 pick-up points available to competing carriers.[14]
