// Workers AI · dad joke modeWhat did Oran lands say to the sea? Nothing, it just coasted.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oran lands[1][2] are traditional sacred groves and community-conserved pastoral commons in Rajasthan, India, dedicated to local deities.[3][4]

Etymology and origin

[edit]

The term oran is believed to originate from aranya (forest) or aan (a local term for a sacred pledge or vow).[5][6]

Lands are symbolically pledged to folk heroes, saints, or local deities (such as Ashapuri or Bherunath), which historically deterred tree felling and wildlife hunting.[7][8]
