Nelli Matula (born December 18, 1995) is a Finnish singer in the dance-pop genre. She has charted many times in the official Finnish Charts. She participated in Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2025, where she ultimately placed 4th.
Biography
[edit]Matula was born in Espoo, and during her time in school participated in a role in Mary Poppins at the Helsinki City Theatre. She was also an exchange student in Switzerland.[1] She has stated that one Christmas, she received a record player which became her favorite item.[2]
She first became known for her appearance in Finnish T.V. show Tähdet, tähdet in 2017, where she was the youngest contestant and was eliminated in the sixth episode.[3] That same year, she was nominated for the Emma Award for Rookie of the Year.[4]
Her first album, released in 2019, was certified platinum. Her second, released in 2022, was certified gold prior to its release due to early streaming.[5]
In April 2023, she cancelled all of her concerts, citing a cycle of illness and stating that her body had been pushed too hard. She subsequently went on a vacation somewhere warmer.[6] She also stated that she received fantastic health care from doctors in Finland.[7] That same year, she stated that many scammers had pretended to be her.[8]
She participated in Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2025 with her song Hitaammin Hautan, described as a "featherlight pop banger" by Music Finland.[9] The song's English title is Slower to the Grave.[10] She placed fourth in the final.[11] However, the song became the most played song of 2025 in Finland[10] and charted for 20 weeks on the Official Finnish Charts for Singles.[12]
In 2026, she headlined Kangasala's Harjufest.[13]
She shares a dog with fellow Finnish singer Elias Kaskinen.[6]
She has been nominated for multiple Emma Awards.[5]
