Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games

Hi, this list needs a bit of update. 2021 event never happened (cancelled) and next one will be in 2026 (and not 2025), also Oceania NOCs are not invited anymore. therefore I recommend removing 2021 and change 2025 to 2026. beside that the next Asian Beach Games will be held in April 2026. thanks in advance. Partly done; I updated the dates for the games accordingly, but since 2021 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games exists and has a fairly reasonable article there, it kinda needs to stay for use in {{games year list}}. As far as Oceania goes, though, 2026 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games says that they will be participating as full members. Primefac (talk) 12:57, 14 December 2025 (UTC)

I don't know about the technical part but that 2021 event did not happened and the OCA doesn't count it, the next one in 2026 is listed as the 6th edition. for example 1944 Olympics got cancelled, but when I check nations at the Olympics pages, like this one I can't see those cancelled years in the box. and in that case IOC actually counts 1944 as the 13rd Olympics, in this case OCA doesn't even count he 2021 edition. so in my opinion if technically possible, it should be removed. right now for most countries it's a redlink like this one

and about the Oceania countries, I know that was a one time thing in 2017 and that part you mentioned is just copy/pasted from the previous one (and unreferenced) but that's OK, we can wait one more year to see that.Sports2021 (talk) 14:33, 14 December 2025 (UTC)

 Not done: it's not clear what changes you want made. Please detail the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. I am happy to update the module code but I am not going to go through every year of the Arab Games to find out who participated and who didn't. If you give me a list, though, I'll get right on it. Elly mino2, apologies for responding before I fully realised what you've asked -- are you giving me the dates that the country did appear? The module is coded so that values in the table are when a country did not appear; for example, Syria appeared in 1961 and 2011 and so has every other date listed because they were not in those. From a quick look your list jives with my list, just that we're saying it in different ways.

I guess another way to put it is this: without necessarily putting it in a table, what information are we missing from any given list of appearances for any given country? Primefac (talk) 19:48, 16 May 2026 (UTC)

I've created the above table to try and figure out exactly when countries participated. So far I only have two references; Silva appears to be pretty reliable so I'm taking their word over Bell, who in their introduction admits that this information is very hard to find (and there are no medal tables for half of the Games he lists). Change the "Algeria" entry under "Arab Games" from:

The sentence found at the beginning of the Algeria at the Arab Games article is clearly incorrect and was not supported by any source.

The medal table also clearly shows that Algeria did not participate in the 1953, 1957, 1961, or 1976 editions. This is consistent with the participation lists in the respective Games articles:

• 1953 Arab Games
• 1957 Arab Games
• 1961 Arab Games
• 1976 Arab Games

Moreover, in 1953, 1957 and 1961 Algeria was still under French colonial rule and did not participate as an independent Algerian delegation. The official historical record of the Arab Games, preserved on the former COJSA website, explicitly identifies 1965 as Algeria's first official participation. The same historical overview lists the participating countries for each edition and shows that Algeria also did not participate in the 1976 edition. This provides direct historical evidence that Algeria's participation did not begin before 1965 and that 1976 should likewise be excluded from its appearances. Uh... the link you provided is about the 2004 Arab Games and doesn't mention any other event (at least that I can see). I would note that the articles you list above only use Silva (I never did get around to adding Bell to '57 page...) and a couple of sport-specific references. The reference has a section on the right side of the page titled "Historical Overview" (نبذة تاريخية). This section systematically lists the participating countries for each edition of the Arab Games, up to and including the 1999 edition. Nassimdz03 (talk) 15:51, 16 August 2026 (UTC)

It should not be considered participation, as there was no official delegation representing Algeria. The athletes were Algerian, but they did not represent the Algerian state, which did not yet exist as an independent country before 1962. This is also confirmed by the source, which identifies 1965 as Algeria’s first official participation. Nassimdz03 (talk) 17:16, 16 August 2026 (UTC)
