Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games

[edit]

Hi, this list needs a bit of update. 2021 event never happened (cancelled) and next one will be in 2026 (and not 2025), also Oceania NOCs are not invited anymore. therefore I recommend removing 2021 and change 2025 to 2026. beside that the next Asian Beach Games will be held in April 2026. thanks in advance. Sports2021 (talk) 14:41, 9 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

I'll see about getting them updated. Primefac (talk) 22:05, 13 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Partly done; I updated the dates for the games accordingly, but since 2021 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games exists and has a fairly reasonable article there, it kinda needs to stay for use in {{games year list}}. As far as Oceania goes, though, 2026 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games says that they will be participating as full members. Primefac (talk) 12:57, 14 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
I don't know about the technical part but that 2021 event did not happened and the OCA doesn't count it, the next one in 2026 is listed as the 6th edition. for example 1944 Olympics got cancelled, but when I check nations at the Olympics pages, like this one I can't see those cancelled years in the box. and in that case IOC actually counts 1944 as the 13rd Olympics, in this case OCA doesn't even count he 2021 edition. so in my opinion if technically possible, it should be removed. right now for most countries it's a redlink like this one
and about the Oceania countries, I know that was a one time thing in 2017 and that part you mentioned is just copy/pasted from the previous one (and unreferenced) but that's OK, we can wait one more year to see that.Sports2021 (talk) 14:33, 14 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Apologies, this fell off my radar, I'll take another look soon. Primefac (talk) 10:33, 3 February 2026 (UTC) 21:11, 1 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Open date ranges

[edit]

Where no end year is specified, please add "present". MOS:TOPRESENT says Do not use incomplete-looking constructions such as 1982– which is what the template currently does (see e.g. United Team of Germany at the 1956 Summer Olympics). Hairy Dude (talk) 19:34, 29 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Wrong template, but I'll see about updating it. Primefac (talk) 22:32, 29 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for that. In the future, it's easy enough to just give me the country names since all I have to do is add a , 2026 to their entry (saves a bit of space here). Primefac (talk) 19:41, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

 Not done: it's not clear what changes you want made. Please detail the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. I am happy to update the module code but I am not going to go through every year of the Arab Games to find out who participated and who didn't. If you give me a list, though, I'll get right on it. ["Lebanon"] = {1976},
["Libya"]   = {1976, 1992},

["Algeria"] = {1953, 1957, 1961, 1976},
["Saudi Arabia"] = {1953, 1965},
["Palestine"]   = {1957},

Elly mino2 (talk) 13:49, 16 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

I'll get to these, thanks. Primefac (talk) 19:43, 16 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Elly mino2, apologies for responding before I fully realised what you've asked -- are you giving me the dates that the country did appear? The module is coded so that values in the table are when a country did not appear; for example, Syria appeared in 1961 and 2011 and so has every other date listed because they were not in those. From a quick look your list jives with my list, just that we're saying it in different ways.
I guess another way to put it is this: without necessarily putting it in a table, what information are we missing from any given list of appearances for any given country? Primefac (talk) 19:48, 16 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Primefac Thank you for your response. The dates I mentioned refer to the years when the country did not appear in the appearances list. Elly mino2 (talk) 12:51, 17 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Okay, let's back up a step. What you have here looks to be exactly the opposite of what is in the discussion above where the current data was added. Did these countries not appear in your dates, or the dates above? Primefac (talk) 21:52, 18 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Primefac, to be more direct, here is the last updates once and for all, this table with the following countries : ["Syria"] = {1961, 2011},
["Kuwait"] = {1999},
["Lebanon"] = {1976},
["Libya"] = {1976, 1992},
["Egypt"] = {1957, 1961, 1965, 1976, 1985},
["Iraq"] = {1961, 1976, 1992, 1997},
["Tunisia"] = {1953, 1961, 1965, 1976},
["Oman"] = {1953, 1957, 1961, 1976},
["Morocco"] = {1953},
["Algeria"] = {1953, 1957, 1961, 1976},
["Saudi Arabia"] = {1953, 1965},
["Palestine"] = {1957},
for example : kuwait did not compete in 1999, Lebanon exit the 1976, extra.......
These years are due to non-participation, They are all mentioned in the table.
please, I hope you can fix them, Thanks a lot. Elly mino2 (talk) 13:25, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

I've created the above table to try and figure out exactly when countries participated. So far I only have two references; Silva appears to be pretty reliable so I'm taking their word over Bell, who in their introduction admits that this information is very hard to find (and there are no medal tables for half of the Games he lists). I haven't looked around for 2004 onward, but I am dead tired and up way too late. Primefac (talk) 00:26, 23 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
