[edit]Looks great! Here are some thoughts:
- param convenience: allow lower- or mixed-case region codes: AT = At = at
- align red link display text: for red links, add left-margin to replace missing assesment icon
- spin off redirects to expl. notes (or handle some other way that preserves narrow table columns)
- option to drop col 1: the title/region col is redundant; could be dropped with no loss of clarity. Keeping it could serve one purpose: linking it to the region article. However, WikiProjects know that country/region articles are mature, and they generally would have no reason to have the country link in a WikiProject progress-tracking table; eliminating it would save valuable horizontal space. Or add param
|label=yeswhere 'yes' means you get a title/region column linked to the region, 'no' you don't get the column. Not sure what the default should be, but I'd say probably|label=no. - option to reduce column widths: add param
|short=yesor|brief=yto truncate cell text to only the variable part. This means the display text in adjacent cols would be just the region, and identical, but that's fine, especially with sticky table headers. With narrower display text you could add more columns. - consider adding a
|max-height=param. This would be very handy for project planners who want to predict how much vertical space they want to use, especially if there are numerous sections on the page all containing tables. Example: WP:WCU and its styles.css page. See table in context at WP:WT, which was the model for this example. - option for article length: generate a unobtrusive linear gradient background with first width proportional to relative article size, similar to how {{Albar}} does it to generate a proportional article length bar (but using very subtle color diff). This would take up zero additional horizontal (or vertical) space, while providing very useful additional data. (not shown)
Some of these are illustrated here. The example shows linked country article in c1 but I think it's not needed. Mathglot (talk) 08:46, 11 March 2026 (UTC)
- The suggestions were amazing, thank you! I implemented most of them, and a few more to boot lol. Figured out a batch lookup method that makes the tables able to handle a lot more! Also made Template:regional articles as a wrapper with nicer syntax.
- Do you have any ideas on how/where to roll this out? I think it's ready to start giving wikiprojects to build with, but wanna put it on a testing noticeboard of some kind if we've got one first. Your Friendly Neighborhood Sociologist ⚧ Ⓐ (talk) 18:31, 13 March 2026 (UTC)
