Rationale:

• The identifier is already established on Wikidata (P13894).
• It is currently used on over 600 Wikidata items, covering essentially all AEK Athens F.C. players with articles.
• It provides stable, structured URLs for player profiles.
• All players with existing English Wikipedia articles have already been connected to this identifier via Wikidata.
• Adding it would improve consistency between Wikidata and Wikipedia external links.

Too long execution time

This issue was originally pointed out on ja:Wikipedia:修正依頼#ウサイン・ボルト、Template:Sports links, but since I confirmed it can be reproduced on enwiki as well, I'm consulting here.

When you add {{Sports links}} on Usain_Bolt#External_links and preview it, you'll see error messages "" According to the profile data in the preview screen, the Lua execution time has indeed exceeded the limit.

One possible solution is to stop referencing Wikidata property pages, and instead manage all URL formats and identifier check patterns locally, as done by Module:Authority control. Are there any other options? 本日晴天 (talk) 08:01, 22 November 2025 (UTC)
