I noticed you already implemented a solution for annunciation style dates. Historically there were a few additional dates for the new year used in some parts of Europe before the uniform adoption of 1 January; see New Year § Historical European new year dates. Nativity style dates shouldn't be too difficult to implement. Easter style is complicated, since Easter is movable and relies on the Computus. It would likely be necessary to make use of Module:Easter. My understanding is that only the Julian method would be needed as I'm not aware of Easter style being in use anywhere after the introduction of the Gregorian calendar. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 04:11, 17 September 2026 (UTC)

I'd suggest adding a tooltip on the year to indicate the method of reckoning the New Year, as simply labelling the dates as OS/NS could be confusing to readers who aren't aware that the date of the New Year can vary, not just whether the Julian or Gregorian calendar is used. The tooltip can simply say "Annunciation Style", or maybe even explicitly state the date of the New Year. I don't mind implementing those, but where exactly will they be used? Both the Nativity Style and the Easter Style seem to have seen very little historical use, and I don't want to make a conversion template only for it to end up not being used anywhere (because last time I did that, the template got deleted). And what exact conversions do you want me to implement? Technically I've done these two:

Julian calendar + Circumcision Style ⇄ Gregorian calendar + Circumcision Style

Julian calendar + Annunciation Style ⇄ Gregorian calendar + Circumcision Style

Do you also want me to do these:

Julian calendar + Nativity Style ⇄ Gregorian calendar + Circumcision Style

Julian calendar + Easter Style ⇄ Gregorian calendar + Circumcision Style

Or do you want something like this:

Julian calendar + Easter Style ⇄ Julian calendar + Circumcision Style

Also, I'm perfectly happy for you to create your own date-conversion templates based on my ones. That's a fair point. The only article I know for certain which could make use of Nativity or Easter style is Joux Lake Abbey, so maybe you're right and adding support for them isn't really needed. However, a tooltip on the years would definitely be useful, as currently there's no visual indication that a different method of counting the years is used.

My edits to modules have mostly been simple changes or adding/updating entries to tables of data. I largely rely on the help of other editors when it comes to Lua, and I wouldn't know how to implement the tooltip via the module to distinguish Annunciation style years from the Circumcision style. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 16:30, 17 September 2026 (UTC)

I changed the way these templates work to be more consistent with the Russian Wikipedia, which already had date conversion templates. So Module:Old Style New Style converter is now replaced by Template:DateStyle and Module:Calendar. I'll add the tooltips when I get home. And the way I restructured this, I don't have to decide which specific conversions to make templates for, because once I implement a calendar style in Template:DateStyle you can convert between it and any other calendar style. 🎸平沢唯は俺の嫁🐱 (talk | contribs | Yui shrine) 07:38, 18 September 2026 (UTC)

These new changes are great! All it needs now are the tooltips so readers have some way to know how the year is counted. (And some non-breaking spaces to match the line-breaking behaviour of {{OldStyleDate}}, but that's very minor.) – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 09:05, 22 September 2026 (UTC)

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I just added a tooltip on Annunciation Style dates that says "Annunciation Style date", and one on Nativity Style dates that says "Nativity Style date". Is that good, or did you want something more specific like "Annunciation Style: New Year counted on 25 March"? I feel like it's good enough, because I find long tooltips annoying, and if the reader wants more information they can just Google it. Great! I agree, the shorter tooltip is more practical. The template is already providing date information and including another date in the tooltip is probably a bit excessive.
