Minter Dial (born 1964) is an American author, documentary filmmaker, and former business executive. He is the author of The Last Ring Home (2016), a book and short documentary about his grandfather, Lieutenant Nathaniel Minter Dial, a U.S. Navy officer who died in Japanese captivity in 1945.[1] His books Futureproof (2017) and You Lead (2021) won Business Book Awards in 2018 and 2022. [2][3]
Career
[edit]Dial worked at L'Oréal for sixteen years, latterly as general manager of Redken worldwide and the member of the Worldwide Executive Committee of L'Oréal's Professional Products Division, and left the company in 2009.[4]
In 2016, he published The Last Ring Home, a book recounting the story of his grandfather Lieutenant Nathaniel Minter Dial, and the return of his United States Naval Academy 1932 class ring after World War II. The story had earlier been the subject of a 2011 Smithsonian Magazine article by Gilbert King and was covered by[5] The Philadelphia Inquirer[6] and Asia Times.[7] Dial also produced the documentary film The Last Ring Home, which was broadcast on American public television stations,[8] Including PBs.[9] It received the Best Documentary and Best Screenplay awards at the Southern Shorts Awards in 2017.[1]
Futureproof (Pearson, 2017), co-authored with Caleb Storkey, won the 2018 Business Book Award in the Embracing Change category.[2]
Heartificial Empathy (2018) which explores empathy in artificial intelligence was discussed on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation radio program This Working Life.[10]
You Lead (Kogan Page, 2021) won the 2022 Business Book Award in the Leadership category.[3]

Podcasts
[edit]Dial hosts business podcast Minter Dialogue.[11] In 2023 he launched The Joy of Padel, a podcast about the sport of padel,[11] which won Best Podcast at the inaugural British Padel Awards in 2026.[12]
