Mauricio Mena Larraín (born 1863) was a Chilean lawyer, farmer and politician who served as a member of the Chamber of Deputies of Chile.
Born in Santiago, he was the son of Mauricio Mena Alviz and Domitila Larraín Zañartu, and the brother of former deputies Pedro and Aníbal Mena Larraín. He studied humanities at several schools in Santiago, including the city's seminary, before studying law at the University of Chile. He qualified as a lawyer in July 1888.[1]
Mena subsequently dedicated himself to agriculture. From 1906, he participated in government missions concerning the transportation and cost of meat from southern Chile, and he also promoted infrastructure projects related to regional agricultural development. Before entering Congress, he served as a municipal councillor in San Bernardo.
A member of the Conservative Party, Mena was elected deputy for La Victoria and Melipilla for the 1912–1915 legislative period and was reelected for the 1915–1918 term. He served on the Permanent Commission of Industry and Agriculture during both periods and was Second Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies from December 1914 to June 1916.
His parliamentary work focused particularly on agricultural and livestock matters, including proposals concerning the creation of a Ministry of Agriculture, animal health regulations, livestock transportation and incentives for frozen-meat exports. He was also a longtime member and director of the Sociedad Nacional de Agricultura and a founding member and councillor of the Sociedad Agrícola de Temuco.
