Luantus is an extinct genus of caviomorph rodent that lived in South America during the Miocene epoch.[1]

Distribution

Endemic to Argentina were the species Luantus initialis,[2] Luantus propheticus,[3] and Luantus toldensis.[4] Luantus sompallwei inhabited Chile exclusively,[5] while Luantus minor is known from both Argentina and Chile.[6] Luantus silbamanta was endemic to Peru.[7]
