Lotus, Florida

Lotus is a former village in Brevard County, Florida, United States. Only one road runs through the area, CR 3, accessible to the south by Pineda Causeway and from the north via Florida State Road 520.
Here is how the history of Lotus is described in the article, 'MERRITT’S ISLAND: ITS PEOPLE, VILLAGES, AND RESOURCES,' published in the newspaper Florida Times-Union and Citizen (December 1897), which can be found at Newspapers.com:
"A little south of Georgiana is "Fairyland," the home of Dr. William Wittfeld. This is one of the places to which regular excursions are run from Rockledge.
Several miles south of Georgiana is Lotus. Lotus is a garden spot. What is now quite a thrifty settlement was, fifteen years ago, an unbroken hammock homestead, owned largely by J. R. Dickson. Charles T. Verbeke made the first improvement of note. He planted an orange grove, bananas, pineapples, grapefruit, vegetables, and flowers, and had in a few years a handsome property. Others now owning valuable property are Grotjan Ronald, Winslow Bisbee, Mrs. Charles Green, the Provost brothers, Jessie Simmons, Calvin Thigpen, J. R. Chalker. Charles D. Provost has a large general merchandise store, and does a thriving business.
Brantley adjoins Lotus on the south".
J.R.Dickson obtained his land patent for 176.24 acres on May 6 of 1884 by purchasing Lot 1 of Section 7 and Lots 1 and 2 of Section 8 in T26S of R37E (Certificate 11671).
Lotus lost its identity as an individual village during the beginning of the Space Age in the 1960s as the entire area fell under single family residential zoning only as part of the larger Merritt Island.
