Lacub, officially the Municipality of Lacub (Ilocano: Ili ti Lacub; Filipino: Bayan ng Lacub), is a municipality in the province of Abra, Philippines. According to the 2024 census, it has a population of 3,649 people.[5]

Geography

According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, the municipality has a land area of 295.30 square kilometres (114.02 sq mi) [6] constituting 7.09% of the 4,165.25-square-kilometre- (1,608.21 sq mi) total area of Abra. It is located at 17°40′N 120°57′E / 17.66°N 120.95°E / 17.66; 120.95.

Lacub is situated 65.59 kilometres (40.76 mi) from the provincial capital Bangued, and 471.44 kilometres (292.94 mi) from the country's capital city of Manila.

In the 2024 census, Lacub had a population of 3,649 people.[15] The population density was 12 inhabitants per square kilometre (31/sq mi).

The municipality is known for agriculture, farming, local labor, and recent local development programs. In the agricultural aspect, Lacub is known for growing crops such as rice and corn. Lacub provides local mobile markets to produce food and supplies to the residents. In the infrastructure aspect, Lacub upgrades water systems, solar power in barangays, and school buildings. Lacub constructs access roads in the barangays to connect to the neighboring areas and municipalities in Abra.

Lacub, belonging to the lone congressional district of the province of Abra, is governed by a mayor designated as its local chief executive and by a municipal council as its legislative body in accordance with the Local Government Code. The mayor, vice mayor, and the councilors are elected directly by the people through an election which is being held every three years.

The Lacub Schools District Office governs all educational institutions within the municipality. It oversees the management and operations of all private and public, from primary to secondary schools.[26]
